New Tires, need recomendations.
 

As title says, i need new tires. I have 17x9s, and AM recomends 275/40-17, is there a better fitment or size that would be better? Im looking for tires preferably under the 150$ea range and was wondering if you guys knew of any specifically good sets. Thanks for any info.

Edit: I just found a 100$ rebate so thats cool, but if its a really good tire for like say 157$ or so im open to that.

What type of tires are you looking for? High performance, all weather, etc. What AM recomended is fine for you.

Go to TireRack.com and search through thier tires. You can select the size you want, 275/40/17, and then sort them according to price. You'll probably find some Sumitomos, Kuhmos, ect. on there that run in that range.

Edit: I looked, I'd go with Sumitomo HTR Z III at $120 ea. I have thoes on my rears and they are good tires. That is, if your going to order from TireRack. I live close to one of thier wearhouses, Shreveport, so shipping is decent. But you have to pay for mount and balance. Figure that into if it would be cheaper for you to order from them or local.

You can't go wrong with Kuhmo SPT's they are a great tire. The Sumi HTRZ III's are pretty good. I have them now. Though the Kuhmo's performed about the same and lasted way longer.

Wow, didnt even know we had a tire/wheel section haha. Im looking for general use tires, but i dont care at all about snow traction but needs somewhat decent wet traction, long as i dont hydroplane the fuck everywhere idc. Im still not sure where im going to have them mounted, balanced and all that, dunno any good places around here. What do you guys think about yokohoma S. Drives? 157$ea, but ford has a 100$ rebate thing so it would end up at 132$ea. Idk, whatever sounds good ill go with. Ford has the rebate on specific brands, those are Goodyear, Continental, Yokohoma, Hankook, and Pirelli.

Nitto NT555's and BFG KD's are pretty much the bomb as far as a street tire. 275/40/17 is where I'd go wtih your rim size.

I hate sumis and kumho doesn't make me any happier. I have sumi's because of budget constraints but I still hate them.

Any opinions on yokohoma s drives? Priced decent, guy at place im doing tires said they were good, plus they go with the 100 $ rebate

Remember to think of the whole picture and not just tire price. Their price includes everything with install and the whole deal. They will price match too which rules. I got 315 Nitto 555R's for $35 less a tire because I found a place online that was cheaper, however I got free install with my discount tire purchase. Think of that cost as its anyhwere from $80-120 seems to be the pricing on 4 17" tires installed.

Very true spike, i had planned to get yokohoma s drives yesterday but due to a fuckup on my behalf im waiting till tuesday and getting a different tire. Not sure yet on which one, or whos going to do it.

Have you looked to see if discount tire has a store near you? I highly suggest them. They are fast, and pretty inexpensive when you consider the whole cost and not just the tire price. Lifetime free balancing and rotation is nice too. Of course I can't rotate with my staggered setup, but its nice to have free balancing.

Looks like there are many in Texas so you should be covered.

Also tirerack.com has been getting local tire stores to work with them so you can get either super cheap install or free install with your order through them. So be sure to look into that. Basically you order the tires from tirerack.com and then they ship them to your local tire place that they work with. So I would search on their too. They carry some brands that discount tire does not have and vis versa.

Cool, yea i know discount tire has a store around 30min by us, but they pissed me off last time. I took my car there to have to tires balanced and rotated and they made it drive much worse than it was in the first place. I had really really bad vibration. But i guess i can give them another shot if they give me the best deal, because while im at it im having my front end aligned or whatever as well. And yeah ive been checking tirerack, and discounttires as well as a tire review site to make sure im getting really good tires for the price.

I'm the same way. I search for a good 1-3 months before I settle for a tire. It's half the fun lol.
