Bought new wheels and tires...

I got these from a guy off craigslist. Look at the pictures (the up close ones). Do they need a new coat of clear coat or what? He said thats what he thinks is wrong with them.

I needed new tires anyway, so instead of spending $700 at pepboys i figured I would just get new rims and good tires off craigslist.

The clear coat seems to be chipping and getting scratched off. I don't know how you would go about getting them re-coated or how much it would cost.

Those look like 05-09 rims?

The offset on those rims are different for his 2000 Mustang.

99MustangGT 07-19-2010 12:05 AM

DemetriX, did you make sure these fit right on your car before you bought them? If I am correct that these wheels came from a 05-09 GT then the offset will be +45mm rather than + 24mm for 94-04 wheels.

Demetri X 07-19-2010 03:44 AM

I just need spacers then?

Where can I get those?

99MustangGT 07-19-2010 06:11 AM

I'm sure you can find a better deal if you look around. Go with 1 inch spacers and you will be perfect.

Demetri X 07-19-2010 09:39 AM

I saw somewhere that said you dont NEED spacers. My question iswhat would happwn if I don't use spacers?
I really need to pass inspection tomorrow and don't have 200 bucks for 4 new spacers

krenogin 07-19-2010 11:54 AM

You shouldnt need the spacers as long as nothing hits on the back side of the wheel when you put them on.

Its just the fact that its going to look very bad with the tires tucked WAYY inside the fender wells. However I have seen some new edges with the very ugly 2005+ v6 wheels that have 100000 spokes.. Those are hideos.

But you shouldnt need spacers, you will just want them!

I also imagine where they will be tucked in so much it may change the handling of the car.

Brontobyte 07-19-2010 12:11 PM

Where did you buy them from? I remember seeing the an ad featuring those rims in it, or something similar around my area.

Demetri X 07-19-2010 01:41 PM

I'll get spacers next week, as long as it isn't a safety issue.

All I'm worried about is passing inspection tomorrow, then i go back to Nj without my car anyway until the weekend.

Oh and I got them from a guy in vineland Nj

Oh, and I've heard that your only supposed to use spacers on the back. True?

99MustangGT 07-19-2010 01:49 PM

Krenogin hit the nail right on the head, you will probably want spacers but don't need them. Put the wheels on and see how they look, you might not be happy with the placement of the wheels, maybe you will. They will more than likely look sucked into the fenderwell like the stock wheels, just make sure that nothing is rubbing on the inside.

Spacers are not specific to rear wheels, people use them on the rear wheels because they want to make them look more beefy, or wider than they really are.

Here is what it looks like... I'm happy with it for now. I eventually would want to get spacers just because I like the way it looks, but this is fine...

And from what I have heard, putting spacers on the front is really dangerous.

sand1303 07-20-2010 07:28 PM

they look good as far as spacing. definatley back ones would look better but they look like they work for now. not sure about front spacers being dangerous, but from that picture don't know if you would need them on front, just back

Looks like someone needs to trim his springs to make his car lower :-)

I think my next mod is these

To be honest I try to look at pictures of lowered cars, and I can't even tell the difference... hopefully once I get them I will see what everyone is talking about.

stanger00 07-28-2010 03:19 PM

those will give a subtle drop...it will be very noticeable up front when that huge gap between the top of the tire and fender is gone.

Is there another brand springs you would recommend? I just see a lot of people with the Eibach ones and have heard good things...

99MustangGT 07-28-2010 07:26 PM

H&R race and super sports are good. The super sports have a more dramatic drop than the race springs, there is a difference of just over a 1/2 inch between the two. You would need c/c plates if you were to buy the super sports to get the alignment back.

I have them on my car. If you want your car slammed look into Super sport or eibach sport lines. I like not bottoming out when I drive over speed bumps.

Demetri X 07-29-2010 06:34 AM

Yeah... I definitely do not want my car to scrape. To be honest that's why I havent gotten springs yet. I'd rather just not get them if they are going to damage the bottom of my car.

Deathdiesel 07-29-2010 09:02 AM

Dude, try to find springs that only drop an inch or so then, add poly isos and i doubt youll scrape unless you scrape now. I had the same thoughts on my car, but went for it and i couldnt be happier with end result.

Demetri X 07-29-2010 05:43 PM

What if I just do what Spike was saying and trim them a little?
