Tire softness/hardness

ok, i have an 08gt, i'm going to want to get new wheels and tires, can i get a lighter wheel weight, and i have not seen anybody talk about tire softness and the hardness.
I know the soft and hard tires HAVE to make a diffrence in handling, and going to a lighter performance wheel has to make a huge difference, where can i go to look at some different wheels and tire choices. I dont know where to start/where to go. I will soon be in the market for these two issues. Thanks

learn to read the UTQG data on the sidewall of your tire, then you'll have a better idea of the softness of the tread. FWIW, most street tires are fairly hard. If you want R compound type selection then you're wanting a race tire not a street tire.

oh... and your tires may make a difference in track times but lighter wheels is mostly a difference in braking and not a really big one. A sticky tire wears FAST. A hard tire handles like shit. ZR/YR/WR/VR rated tires are all MUCH softer than the average street car tire and handle incredibly compared to a standard SR or even HR rated tire.

A tire with a treadwear rating of 140 is going to be softer than your average tire with a 300 or more treadwear rating. That trearwear rate is also going to be a good indicator of how long the tire will last you. technically, a tire with a treadwear rating of 300 will last three times as long as a tire with a a 100 treadwear rating.

everything from the above is all good info. If you had any more questions, I would recommend a stop at your local tire shop and have a chat. Most places will have a person who can answer all your questions.
