255/45/17 - Anybody run these on the front?

I have the green light to finally get new front tires for my 2004 GT since my current ones are the ones that came with the car ( Goodyear 245/45/17 ) and I am wanting to go up to a 255 for some more tire up front.

I found a good price from tirerack, for a set of Sumitomo HTRZ II for $74 each. So total I am looking at $180 shipped.

What are your thoughts on these?

Sumitomo HTRZ II

Thanks!

i have those in 255/45 18. Out back i have 275/40, and i think my front tires have a higher sidewall than my back, which i dont like, BUT i also have the HTRZ II's as well. In my opinion they are drift car tires when wet, but on dry they seem to hold well. Also they seem to wear very good. Overall a good tire, but as soon as the first hint of ice comes they are going off and my machs with sumitomo HTR+'s are going on.

Thanks for the input, they seem to be the cheapest I have found so far... $175.63 out the door

Just b sure to remember these r summer tires. If u live in a place that is colder in the winter u might not want them

excatly, and HTR II's are pretty cheap. i dont know if mine are just getting wore, but im scared to give my car gas or take curves moderatly fast, so it may just be me.

That's the factory size on '94-'95 Cobra's.
I was going to put that size on my car but I need an all season and they're so much more expensive than the 245's. That's a good price.

You could run up to a 275 pretty safe. Sumitomo has always been a pretty good bargin so if price is the deal, go for it. For performance, I'd just go for something else.

price and reliability is key too, thing with 275's they seem to catch every bump and cranny in t he road and around here on the hwy that I drive everyday they suck!

I actually found a craigslisting listing for a set of 275/40/17 Goodyear F1's for $100 and the guy told me they came off of a 03 Cobra and that they are in really good tread condition. So going to look at those tonight to see.

I really didnt want to go to big, but for that price I cant beat it if they are in good condition!

krazypony 10-27-2009 06:40 AM

guy was a arsehole last night I met with the tires, he was like you know I cant sell these for no $100 and are you really interested in these? I was like get down here and meet with me and I will let you know for sure!

So he gets down to his shop and lets me in and these tires didnt have any more than what I have now, and I was like man I am gonna have to pass up on these they might be worth $100 buts that if I didnt drive the car 100mi everyday. The dang things only had like 1/8 all around them, they were on the back of a 03 Cobra that had some spinning fun on them.

But all in all my wife has ordered me some Sumi HTR Z III's ( 255/40/17 ) and they will be installed on Thursday for $253.20, here company gets a slight % for tires since they do so much business with them for all there vehicles.

But he did have a pristine 69 SS Chevelle on a lift in there, and a old Dodge Charger on the other side covered in dust

You will be happy with the HTR Z IIIs they are pretty good tires.
