Removing break cailbers

If I jack up my car myself and remove the wheel to paint the break caliber, how hard is it to also remove the break caliber, I know most people say you can just brush on the paint but I'd find it easier if I could hold the caliber and paint it.

Anyone know from experience, is it as hard as removing the wheel or does it take more to get the job done.

Removing the wheel is a lot easier than removing the brake caliper. Plus, if you don't know what you're doing, you might run into problems putting the brake back together. It's still doable though. You won't really need a guide. Just remember, or take pictures while you're taking it apart and it should go back together without a problem.

I took mine off when I did them. However I was already doing a full brake job on my car. Its just two bolts to remove the caliper to paint it if you don't take the brake line off.

I'd definitely take the caliper off, but leave the brake lines attached. Like Spike said it's just 2 bolts on the back to remove it. Once you have it off get some news paper or plastic bags and tape of the entire area around the caliper in the wheel well to prevent overspray, spend some good time on this as prep work is most important step. It's just not worth removing everything form the caliper when you can just tape off the area instead.

so when you all painted the calipurs you just took the 2 15mm bolts off to remove it from rotor, but how do u tape it off so u didnt get spray on the pads and shit that hold pads.

Painters tape, I probably spent like 10-15 minutes taping everything thing off. The pads you don't have to worry about because there not attached, but you'll wanna tape off the inside of the caliper and what not. I also taped off straight across the mid way on top (just past the little logo on top of the caliper) so I wouldn't have to worry about the back because you wont see it anyways. I can take a picture to show you what I mean if you want. Then just have most of the wheel well taped off to prevent overspray and place the caliper in a way that you can spray the caliper down. Took only about 3-4 light coats.

I always paint my calipers by hand. I usually do around 5 or 6 coats. And I leave them bolted up, because that gives me a nice firm surface to paint against. I agree with what was said above though.. If you're a beginner, make sure you tape over areas that you don't want painted. I also suggest that you place newspaper under where you will be painting. The type of paint used to paint calipers can be a pain to clean off of concrete..
