Default An Actual Tool Or Accurrate "Home Method" To Test Tread Depth?

Afternoon everyone.

Just wondering how I could go about accurately testing the depth of my tire tread to see if the rear wheels (of course ) need replacing yet.

Take a penny put it in between the treads and if it doesnt reach past lincolns head then you need new tires.

simple rule of thumb is to use a penny...
stick the penny in the tread Lincoln side facing you upside down. if Lincoln's head touches the thread, replace the tire. that is about 2/32 inches tread left. i think new normal tires have 11/32

Pennys sound quick and easy, but I keep a 6" metal ruler in my toolbox that measures down to 1/64th of an inch and it is great for something like tread depth. It would be good if you measure your tread depth often to check for uneven wear and need to know exactly what it is like it do.
