This is the tire I have on my stock bullits.

Now remember, I have only had my gt a few months so I'm new to all this in the first place, and so on top of all that I'm very unfamiliar with what tires are good and what aren't. I know this isn't the stock size for tires on this wheel, but I'm wondering about how good these tires are.

They look brand spankin' new and have a lot of tread but they just don't seem to hook well a lot of the time, unless I'm on that really gritty pavement, you know what i'm talking about. Sometimes when i'm on the really packed pavement these things just feel so unsure under me that there's no way I'd want to race anyone because there's no way I'd hook, i'd just spin if i tried to deliver any power to the ground at all. Granted I feel great with them at high speed and around corners, I have no doubt in my mind Ive got footing, but hooking up on launch is just a problem for me at this point.

Maybe it's just because GTs are powerful and light and they can turn most any tire over :dontknow:


Basically what I want to know is that do I need to get different tires?
Or what?

From what Ive read about that tire, it will hook ok, but there are better tires. Not necessarily d/r's, but others like the Nitto 555 tires are supposedly good for hooking up. Just the regular radial tire I mean.

I just took a set of those off my car. I think they are great tires for the price. They hooked fine for me, but in the cold, not as good.

I have 4.10's too and get consistent 2.0 60 foot in the 1/4 with stock pressure. That's not too bad. Way better then most people get with street tires, and not as good as some others.

I am running sumis now because I switched to 315's and did not want DR's.

BTW, my Kumhos were 285's in the back.

Discount tire company lied and said they were in georiga and I'd have them the next day. I call the next day they say the tires dont exsist. So after fighting they gave me the kumos for the same price. Im happy with them. Holla

i have toyo proxe 4 and they work great all around.

It's a pretty tall order getting most street tires to hook well. It takes alot of practice in feathering out the clutch.
I'm not a big fan of drag radials on the street, they wear out fast, cost a bunch and suck in the rain.

8 inch rims are not the optimal width for a 275 tire. Mounting 275's on an 8 inch rim will cause the tread to bow, making the inside and outside edges of the tire to not grip the road as well as they could. Your tires probably would hook better if mounted on a 9 inch wheel, this would make the tread lay more flat on the road thus giving more traction.

I see what you're saying. I agree, I don't want to get DRs at this poing either. I will never be going to the track so for me it's definatley overkill.
Thanks for the tech reason, that makes a lot of sense and I was actually starting to hypothesize that that might be happening. :p
I am planning on getting some saleen wheels soon on 9" wheels so maybe then I'll have a better recipe for some good hook up.

You can fix the problem of the tires bowing by keeping them at a lower pressure. I get a really good contact patch at roughly 26 to 27 psi, but your tires might be different (I have Nitto 275/40's on back).
