Im thinking about going with the black FR500 wheels. 17x9 in the front deep dish 18x10 in the back and sumitomo tires to match. But my dad is telling me its a really bad idea and a waste of money b/c I cant rotate them..what do you think? Should I just go with the same size all around? I really dont want to b/c I think my car would look SO much better with bigger wheels in the back but Im not made of money either, how often would I have to buy new tires? Any personal exp? I'd appreciate some input.

if your a lead food the the back tires are not going to last as long, i think you could get 25,000 miles be for having to change your tires but i don't know much about tires.

i have 17x9 in front and 10.5 in the rear. and yeah, you cant really rotate them but you can swap the tires on the wheels of the drivers and passengers side.

I have a set of Sumitomo's with maybe 8,000 miles on them tops. 315's in the read and 245's in front, they are probably sitting at about 50% tread.

If you want to do it and have the money to do it then dont worry about what yer dad says. yeah, you cannot rotate the fronts to backs. That doesent make it a waste if you understand that and are cool with that.

plus 315's look sick.

Jack what color is your car? It looks like a navy blue, i didn't even know they made that.

So I should go with 315 in the rear the 18x10's?

I'd go with 17x9 with 275's up front, and 17x10.5 with 315's in the back. And then take pictures for us to see!

You dont have a great selection of tires with that, you pretty much have the cheap sumitomos and expencive-as-shit everything else.

my sumitomos ran me about $450 for all 4 mounted and balanced. If you go with the next level up tire yer looking to spend about 1,200.

If your getting black wheels, get black lug nuts. Chrome lug nuts with black wheel would look weird to me. I personally am not a fan of black wheels as it blends in with the tire, and blends in with the wheel well, and doesn't stand out like wheels should. But thats just my opinion.

Sumitomos are really cheap, but if your going with the bigger rim and all that, I think they'll be just fine, as your going to be paying alot as it is. Next set of tires i'd go with a higher quality.

Sumitomos are fine tires if you drive on the nice days. The have real crappy traction when it gets colder out. In the summer they work great

I have always had terrible luck with tires so when i got my FR500s i went with 18x9 all the way around so i could rotate em. IMO our tires cost too much NOT to rotate them! Also IMO the 315s look cool and all but i see them more for track use or a NON DD car. To me.... for a DD its just not practical for 315s

This is what you were looking to do originally, 17x9" Black FR500s up front and 18x10" Black FR500s in back. The front tires, which will be replaced next week, are 255/45 R17 tires (changing them to 275/40 R17s), and in back are 295/35 R18s. I did the offset rims for more of a raked look.

The 18's would look great on the rear but the cost between a 315 in a 17 is alot less than a 18.Also you are very limited in finding a 315 in the 18's.My BFG DR's 315/35/18's on my Cobra cost right at $600 for the set :eek: and DR's are about all you can find in a 315/35/18.

Might be because they are a summer tire hmmmmmm :p

Real sports cars do NOT have matching tire and wheel sizes. The term is called "off-set" and has been used for 50 years. Tire rotations are for station wagons and mini-vans. Seriously, you don't need to rotate tires EVER especially if you have a good alignment. Shit, I have not rotated mine for two years and wear has been great....nice and even.

Let's get a few more facts out of the way and avoid all this dam banter going on....(lol).

Stay away from anything larger then a 17" rim on your sixer. The bigger rims will only slow the car down and result in much higher tire prices. Not worth it! Getting the 17x9's in the front and the 17 x 10.5's in the back is the way to go IMO.

Nittos are not great tires. In fact, they are marginal at best. Ever heard of "group think"? That is why people like Nittos. They advertise the hell out of them and people seem to think they are cool. But, you won't find one single write-up on them showing that they are any better then average. Just look at people's 60 foot times....that speaks volumes.

People make fun of Sumis because they are cheap. I have run two sets on my 380 hp car and I will bet you dinner that I would whoop-ass on any Nitto tire. Hell, I was pulling sub 2.0's on them in the 60 foot before I had a super charger. I guarentee 100% that the Sumi will suit you fine on your car. Shit, you won't even be challenging these tires.

As far as them sucking in the cold, that is because they do suck. Know why? Because they are a summer compound. Good summer tires are supposed to suck-ass in the cold! That is the idea! If you have tires that perform well in the cold, then they aren't much of a performance tire. Ultimately you need to decide if you want to have a summer set AND a winter set, or go with a compromise.
