Sumitomo Tires

So i have 17X9.5 ( or something like that) sumnitomo tires on all 4 wheels. Ive been noticing that when im in the 2-3k rpm range and in wet conditions @ 2k rpms my tires seem to spin alot as in no traction(this is when im first acclerating). Ive checked my tread depth and there fine. since i only have 19k miles on the car and maybe 14k on the tires. Keep in mind where i am they have alot of steep hills. but even then that shouldnt be spinning like that. Or they just that crappy of a tire or what? Any suggestions on what tires i should go with next? dont want anything to expensive so i dont race or anything like that.

You have 14k on tires that cost about 120 a pop.

yer getting a bit of spinout now.

what do you expect? lol...honestly i diddnt expect anyone would get more than 10-12k miles on sumitomos

Unless you want to shell out some big bucks, i would just get some new sumitomos. cant beat em for the price. unless you dont mind shelling out 300-350 per tire

but the tire treads arnt even low. i even done the penny check and there fine.

exactly i dont get that squeal anymore i get some other not as cool sound. ill prolly just wait till these die and then go out and figure out what other tires i want. maybe some BFgoodrich or yokahoma. ill have to do some more research. Then finally ill will have matching treads. ( since i had a flat that wasnt fixable and they discontinued the old style so they gave me the updated version)

What sumi's do you have? I have the htrz II's and have not noticed this problem. Also, mine have ~16,000 miles and I would say they probably have 55-65% treadlife remaining.

Sumis wear quick...they are cheap for a reason. the next step up in quality with a 315/35/17 is hundreds more PER tire.

Well If you have tread, then im going to guess you have rear wheel drive and your a little too hard on the gas :-p

hey a v6 doesnt make that much power.

You could try to add a little weight to the rear end. Mine used to do the same thing and once I added some weight they do not spin like they used to. The weight I added was a sub box with 2 subs and an amp.

Do you have a Posi installed if not thats why it can spin so easy in the wet. Your only spinning one tire. You didnt say anything about that so i assume you dont.

i read somewhere on this forum a while ago that the sumi tire compound gets harder as the tire gets older. Doesnt that mean more "slipage"?

most every tire will get harder as it ages. Try dropping tire pressure by a pound or two. See what that does.

BTW...what rear springs are you using? Lowered cars with higher rate rear spring are always going to be easier to spin.

I have these too, but did notice a drop in traction compared to my Michelin Pilots. Mine dont squeel either (I was done caring about that squeal sound when I graduated high school), and they do spin much easier but what I do like about them is that they seem to be quite predictable. I can tell when I am putting too much into them, going a bit too hard. I like them for the price.

yeah you cant beat the price for the tire. They last long, decent traction when new, and EVERYONE has them

yeah i tottally agree there pretty predictable i know which way the car is going to go and when to let off the gas.

and no i dont have a POSI installed

and no i dont have my car lowered.

+1 Jack! No probs with my Sumis! Check out the Toyo tires, I had those before and they was pretty decent! They didnt "hook up" NEAR as good as the stock Goodyear tires but they lasted a hell of a lot longer. And the didnt cost a buut load of cash either! Really I would rate the Toyos and Sumis bout the same... wear, traction, wet traction, all that stuff!
