Default Needs help choosing slicks...

I dont know the numbers on the slick sizes. I dont even know if what i just typed made sense...i need a "slick tire sizing education". I bought some 17x9 rims, im saving the 17x8 and wanna put some slicks on the 17x8. But i dont know what the numbers in the size mean. I know how to read regular tire sizes, can someone please help me out with the "lesson". Also any suggestions on sizes that fit a 8 inch rim would be very helpful...thanks

mickey thompson et streets. this size is 275/40/17 so it should fit on your 8" rims without too much buldge.

even though it says minimum rim size 9"..that would be ok to run on a 8" rim? I would like to get an actual SLICK though...for track only..
