noob question about oem bullitts
Hey guys,
Sorry about the noob question. I tried a search but couldn't find an answer. I have OEM bullitts on my car with the stock Goodyear 245/45/17's on them. I need tires so I'm probably gonna get some bfg g-force t/a kdw's. My question is would it be possible to go with a slightly bigger tire size to gain a little width? I know I did it long ago on some old GTA wheels on a firebird I had and they looked cool but over time it wore unevenly in the center. I'm talking a slightly bigger tire on my oem bullitts. Nothing rediculous. Would this be possible and if so would it look right? What would you guys recommend? I really like tread pattern on the bfg's. |
I'm pretty sure you can go with 265/40/17 with no problems...I'm sure someone will correct me or back me up on this.

255 width will allow you more choices in tire type/brand.

Is the 255 a wider tire?
After posting this I read the sticky thread about tire sizes and I saw people were saying the 265/40/17 was the recommended tire size for the oem size wheels. I assume that's a slightly bigger tire than what I have. |
first number = width in millimeters
second number = aspect ratio (ratio of width to height off rim) third number = rim height The best single choice for those rims in a plus size tire is a 255/40/17. Other sizes have downsides that aren't acceptable. 265 are best on a 8.5" rim but they bulge a bit on most 8" rims which reduces sidewall strength. |
Hey thanks r3dn3ck. I think the 255 width would be a nice slight gain in width without being too much bulge. Now I gotta figure out where to special order them from. I wonder if I should go to a tire store and special order through them or just get them online and have them mounted somewhere... hmmmm...

I'll assume price is a major concern. Do you care about brand? if not go to tirerack and get a set of sumitomo HTR Z II's. They're 85 bones each.

I just bought a set of Nittos from discounttiredirect.com and I couldn't be happier. They had by far the best prices I could find and have free shipping, and their customer service was top notch as well.
They're definitely worth at least a look. |
Thanks guys, both of those sites have some great prices. I think I'll go with the Nittos from discounttiredirect.com. Seems like a great price at 117 bucks compared to the 159 bucks a piece for the bfg's. I know a place locally that will mount and balance them for cheap.
