Is maintaing the nice shine/finish anything like maintaing the finish on a black painted car?
I was wondering this because I am looking at black wheels for the MACH but wondered how the edge of the wheels looked after months of driving on them. does it show the dust/grim and allof that crap as badly? do they spot up and pit badly? Any tips you can provide would help greatly. I was thinking that a black wheel would look just like the hood of a black car after months...pitted and chipped. |

Just clean then and wax if you wish... after all they are painted.
Ive never waxed my wheels or anything but mine are stock. |

Matt,
i think black would be a little different than the color you have. I might be wrong but I want to make sure and hear from others who have them. I am SUPER anal about stuff like that and would like to knwo before I get them in. I still have a week to change my order before they ship out. |

Black paint is hard to maintain clean. I have two black cars and it looks awesome when clean and detailed but horrible if it rains or if you go over a puddy of water plus scratches are more visible. I would say wheels would be the same. I guess its a good idea that I painted my engine black

i have the black saleens and before i even put them on i waxed them and it helped keep brake dust off them and kept them looking shiney.... then whenever going to car show i just used instant detailer on it and they are perfect again... black wheels ftw

Well I just wash mine every. When I wax my car I wax my wheels as well. They do show brake dust and what not, but not too bad. No problems chipping here.

They dont require as much care as a black car would. HOWEVER, regular paint wax wont last long on wheels. The wheels get so hot the wax will actually melt. The same thing can happin on your paint, but your wheels will get a hell of a lot hotter then your paint ever will. The wax might also contain abrasives which you dont want. I recommend using Poorboy's Wheel Sealant or DP Wheel Glaze. Both of those are sealants which will last longer. Id also clay bar the wheels whenever you clay your car, which should only be about once every 6 months or twice a year.
Oh, and wheels can get water spots too, so make sure you dry them after washing. |

the brake dust was much more noticable on my stock bullitts than on my black wheels.
Just make sure u dont buy HAWK CERAMIC BRAKE PADS..they dust like Cinderella, and i find myself cleaning my wheels alot more than when I had my Motorcraft pads on..
