Tires?
 

I'm lookin to get new 18" rims. I don't know much about tires. What are some good quality tires? Also, does getting bigger rims affect anything else with the car?

Let us know where you live, and what type of driving do you do. Do you need an all-season, or do you go to the track. It makes a big difference.

I live in Wisconsin and the weather here sucks so I'll be looking for all-season tires. I'd like tires that can stick to the road. I plan on going to the tracks a few times this summer. I'm thinking maybe I should get some new tires but keep the ones I have now for winter?

What I recomend is to call Tire Rack. They give great advice!

For an all-season tire, I recomend either the Continenal (forget the exact model name) of the Kumho ASX if you are on more of a budget.

But, the best bet is to have two sets of tires. One for the summer and one set for the winter.

18" rims will make the ride choppier since the sidewalls are stiffer and they will not grip as well when launching. They are not good for drag racing. Also, you will loose a bit of performance due to the higher angular weight. It takes more force to get them to roll, and more force to get them to stop.

Not a fan of 18's myself, but if you like the way they look, then get them.

Fast shipping, good customer service. As for tires, before I got my deep dish, I ran Dunlop SP 5000 which worked great in the snow. (My wife and I are from North Dakota and Michigan, respectively) They are also great wet and dry tires, with outstanding wear. The only problem is they only go to a P275/40ZR17 or a P255/55R18, if you want wider or lower go with the Dunlop SP 8000 or 9000 which are also great all weather tires, and they run to more sizes.

I have 18's on my car.... the 2000 Cobra R's. I put a set of my friends 17's on last weekend at the track and gained .20 from the week before. But I still love them for the road because they are awesome looking.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with 18" Saleen wheels. I figure since I have a v6 and not an 8 I might as well make it more of a show car...cuz after all, Mustangs look bad ass.

looking to put on some new rubber here. i got a 94 mustang coupe, v6 3.8L 5-speed. i live and drive mostly in the new york area, so i'll need an all-season tire.

i'd like to go bigger, cuz it seems like i've got some room to go as big as 18'' tires.

please, any advice would be welcomed.

I would not get all season tires. I would get some summer tires for the 18s and then get some 15 or 16 V6 wheels with winter tires. It may cost you some $$ up front but it will save you alot more in the long run.

Winter tires are much better than all seasons in the snow. With a tail happy stang you need the best you can get. I used winter tires and salt bags in trunk and its great in the winter.

thanks... but can u be a bit more specific? like wat brands are best, and any specific tire lingo i should be savvy on.
