Default Will These Wheels/Tires Fit Okay On My Car?

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I just bought a new 2004 Mustang yesterday. Its just the base coupe but it had some nice options and only had 50 miles on it....and since the model year is over Ford had some killer rebates on it. Anywho I just dropped $1050 on some rims that should be here in a week. I was stupid and didnt think if they would fit or not though. Anyway the tire size is 245/40/ZR18. I still have time to change the order to 17's, but I'd really like to get the 18's if they dont rub. So let me know if the tire size above for the 18's I bought will fit okay without rubbing.
Thanks!
Mike

well, it would be helpful if you told us what the rim size is. That tire size will fit both 18x8 and 18x9... a little small for an 18x9 but ive seen 245 on 9's alot. I personally have 245s on my 8 inch rims.. (17x8)

I wouldnt put 245's on anything wider then an 8" rim, itll just look stupid. Id go with 275's all around.

yeah if your puttin 245/40 it wouldnot look right at all. i have 285 35 on my 18's if you can put out 500 more ill sell you my rims and tires. wed is when i pick up my new 17's. who ever sold you those rims should of sent you some clips to put something up front. if they didnt then go to the dealership and try to get the parts guy to research it for you. they come in packs of 4. i dont have any rubbing problems

What are these clips that you speak of? Also...you say it might look wierd, but it doesnt hurt that the tires are 245 does it?...cause I dont exactly have much money and I'd have the sell the wheels I just bought and make what I bought em for to be able to get wheels w/ the size tires you are talking about.

call steeda and tell them you bought some 18'9's and you forgot to get the spacers to go along with them and they should be able to tell you waht you need. 245's are too skinny for a 9 inch rim. it will look even worse if you got a 245/40 series on there. go to discounttiredirect.com you usually can find a good deal there i think my roomate paid about 80 dollars less a tire for his set then i paid for mine. he has sumitomo tires. like i said if you have the bullitt style rims and tires ill take $1200 and your old rims and tires offf your hands.

The tires that are on the rims I'm getting are Sumitomo Z-Rated Tires. If looks is the only thing that the smaller tire size is going to cause, then I'm not too worried about it. I was just mainly worried about them rubbing, and apparently that isnt going to be a concern. My current factory rims arnt the bullitt style...they are just the gey 5 spoke things. I guess if anything, I can just get the different tires when I need to replace the tires on the 18's. Thanks for the advice and offer on your wheels though....I appreciate it.

1. They should fit fine w/o rubbing.

2. They will look fine. The rims may stick out a bit from the tire and you may damage the rim if you hit a curb.

3. While they say they are 18 x 9's, they may in reality be 18 x 8.5's.

4. Bigger question: Is the new setup taller than the stock setup? If so, your speedo will be off. If the tire and wheel height is the same, then you won't have any problems.

Thanks that helped a lot. I'm careful about parking and being around curbs so they should be fine. Thanks again for the help...I'll just post pics after I get the rims in and save myself from starting 2 threads. Thanks Again.

if he goes with 245 40 then the rim and tire setup will be about 1" to an 1.5" smaller the the stock tires (im talking in rotation distance not height). my 18"s are .5" taller then stock and its a very minimal change in speed. like my speedo will read 25 but im actually going 26 then when im at highway speeds its still within 5 miles an hour.
