Default K-member removal

I'm ready 2 start putting a set of long tubes on and have found the easiest way is dropping the k member. I jacked the car up 2 c what I got 2 do in order 2 do so and it looks kinda detailed, but I want 2 c if anyone else has some tips on what I need 2 do they would like 2 share. I could just pay some shop 2 do it, but I like new challenges I haven't done b4, so would rather take a shot at it over paying someone.

Is this a GT? If it's a v6 I'm pretty sure you don't need to mess with the K-member but I will assume it's a GT. You'll need to be able to support the engine in some way. A cherry picker, or even better a engine lift/brace thing.

Find a 20% off cupon and buy it.

So, brace the engine, and I don't know the specific steps to remove the K-member.

That probably does a good job of explaining it.

Now get to work.

No need to spend money on something to support the motor. Get a sturdy piece of wood and use your jack. Also, jacking the motor up slightly helps make some room to get to a couple of the bolts. Just be careful not to go too high. I'd recommend at least 1 buddy to help with the k-member!

Damn, thats what I thought. Just about everything has 2 come off. On the engine brace what does the chain hook to? It says 33.9", so it's not long enough to go all that far.
And the car is a GT. Their are directions on AM 4 the headers, but most people have told me it would b easier this way. It would give more room under the car 4 sure, so I think this is how I'm going 2 go at it.

I forgot 2 add I got no friends, and this will b done in my yard. I didn't even know of the support bar and planned on using my jack with a piece of 4x4 I got. The bar looks pretty cool, but cash is tight right now and this would more than likely b the only time I would use it.

You can do it with a piece of wood under the oil pan, just slowly raise and lower it is all I will say. It will be alot of weight on that pan.

Yea, it would b a lot of weight on the pan. I sure don't want 2 screw anything else up. If I go that route I will b watching that 4 sure.

My buddy did the majority of my install and he's also done 5-6 other 99-04 4.6's without issues using the jack/wood method. I wouldn't be worried about it too much just don't leave it that way overnight or when you aren't around. I'm just warning you that k-member is a heavy sob and will be a pita by yourself!

If I was a tad closer I'd say come use my garage. But theres a bunch of mustang guys who did a LT swap in a day on 2 cars.

Me n my friend put an engine in his mustang and we slid the engine in with the LT's on. But thats engine and tranny removal. Sometimes they rub on the bottom of the chassis too. They are a PAIN!

You might want to hold off until you can afford a tubular k-member too. Since you're already taking it out.....

That's what I'd do.

No way I would go off with the jack on the oil pan. I don't know how heavy first hand, but I got 2 floor jacks so if I can't handle it myself I got a jack I can use. I may just end up dropping one side and try 2 change the headers then drop the other. I may have no choice but 2 drop the whole thing, but I find a way 2 get it in their.

That would b a good idea, but I don't know how deep I plan on getting into this car. I love it and all, but due 2 the lack of tracks or any safe place 2 race this car will just b a DD kinda car.
