Bumpsteer or not?
 

So the task a hand this weekend so 2 get slammed. I got my sportline springs put on and noticed my ball joints and tie rods ends have the rubber boots busted. I was wanting 2 know if I should order a bumpsteer kit to replace the tie rods? Their hasn't been any weird noises so I may let both go 4 a bit but most likely not.

You want the bumpsteer. For one it fixes the geometry and won't cause the car to shoot of to either side when you hit a bump in the road at speed, and for second it'll do less wear and tear.

270 some dollars later I got the steeda x2 and bumpsteer ordered. Damn, now I got 2 push back the rest of the parts I need 2 install my LT headers.

You need to measure that bumpsteer correctly in order for the parts you bought to have any effect.

Well I read the install page on AM's site and it looks like it's not 2 hard. Is there more 2 it than just getting the A arm lined up? I was going 2 do all this myself, but if their is a lot more 2 it I may not.

The easy way is to keep the tie rods parallel to the control arms. Use an angle finder. It's not as precise as what MM shows but is good enough.

Hell, if bassman says it's good enough, guess what I'm doing today... pulling out my digital (down to a hundreth of a degree) angle finder.

That's some good news. I was bout 2 freak out cause I know there isn't any shops that could do something like that around here. I would think any alignment shop could get me where I would need 2 b then. Thanks guys

Measuring will tell you how much to correct it. You can eyeball it with the parallelism of the tie rod and the A-arm but it won't be precise. Bad ball joints says there's something else at work if the car wasn't already lowered.

Like I said in post 1 their have been no weird sounds or anything I just noticed the rubber boots r busted. These I think r the factory ball joints and the car has over 111k on it. I will have the car lined up after I put this stuff on. I took her 4 a short drive and sounds like 4x4 tires on it.

I got done putting my bumpsteer kit on a little while ago. I got the tie rods parallel with the A-arms within a few degrees of each other at ride height. I really should take the time to fab up something to measure the bumpsteer but it looks pretty good and I'm tired.

After a few more hours under the front of the stang I got my bumpsteer and X2's put on. I always read how big a difference that it would make but driving the car is way better and I haven't got it lined up yet but it rides great now. That bn said if ur car has been lowered PUT THESE ON.

I was suprised at the difference also. I had always been told that bumpsteer is hard to detect and isn't a big issue. I found that to be far from the truth. I've had steering wobble for a while, and it turns out it was bumpsteer. My car is really low, too low in fact, so I probably benefited from the bumpsteer kit more than what some people would.

My car had a little play in it from the day I got it that is gone now. I need 2 have the car lined up 4 sure though. It did fine on the back roads I live on cause it's all curve, but I took it out on the interstate 2day and could tell that it's a little out.
