suspension on an 88 mustang

2 Attachment(s)
hey i have an 88 mustang w/ t-tops (idk if that matters)

so its giving me a rough ride and i was wondering how to improve it. should i replace the shocks/struts and springs? or just springs? or what? it still has the stock suspension setup. and i really dont want to lower it because it has really big chrome mufflers and i dont want them to scrape.

Any ideas? thankz

replace :

shocks, struts and springs......they are most likely worn out.

Biggest difference would be felt by changing out the dampers with a good set. Something that would work with the stock spring rate would be Tokico HP or Bilstein HD, either of those series would improve ride quality. I wouldn't be so quick to replace the springs, unless it was something that was similar to the stock spring rate and didn't lower the car much. If your budgest permits, a set of full length sub frame connectors would go just about as far as dampes for improving ride quality, especially on a floppy car like a vert or T-top.

ok well im only 16 with a part time job. about how much would it cost to replace the shocks/struts and springs? i was looking on AM and it has the option of getting isolators. do i need to get those too? it still has the original shock suspention stuff so im pretty sure every thing is worn out, but im not sure. whats a sub frame connector?

Best bang-for-your-buck is the Ford Racing Handling Pack for 94-04 cars. It should fit the Fox and gives you about a 1" drop. Plus for the price of a new set of struts and shocks, you get that plus springs and a sway bar.

If everything is still stock, before going to subframes and such, take a look at your bushings. I can almost guarantee that they all need replacing. Get a set of poly bushings for the front control arm and stock rubber everywhere else.
