Girdle and Panhard Bar
This summer I'm hoping to rebuild my rear end and by the end of the year, I'm hoping to put a PB and TA in. Considering this, what girdles work w/ the MM panhard bar? I'm thinking of either the regular FRPP piece or the FRPP piece for S197s if I need a low clearance one.
I know I can't even change the girdle with my panhard bar on.....
None. If you can machine down the center rib a bit you might be able to fit one.
MM said there's is compatible w/ one though? Maybe TA isn't of FRPP?
Never seen one that fit. They all rubbed the aluminum bar on mine so I couldn't put one on. If you have the steel PHB it's a little slimmer and you can probably fit the UPR cover.
The install instructions say it is compatible with the TA diff cover. I also thought that TA made a diff cover that doesn't stick out as far?
Yeah they do make an S197 one that has a lower profile.
So this is a dilemma, as I was hoping to get a girdle. Can someone w/ a PB maybe take a tape measurer and measure the distance between bar and where the diff cover mounts to the diff. Maybe I can find one w/ adequate clearance...
If no one else gets that measurement I will get it for you this weekend.
I'll measure when I get home today. IIRC there's ~.75" between the bar and the stock cover at the closest point but it's been a while since I fiddled with it.
This is what I got from TA's site:
Low Profile: 3.75" (measured from gasket surface to highest point). The S197 is shorter than this, and the standard one is taller, though the site didn't list the measurements for those. Those of you guys who can give me the measurement (thank you, by the way), will the low profile version provide adequate clearance? |
there is 2.25 inches (approx) from the steel bar and the stock diff cover.

here's a site with pics of a griggs racing setup and a T/A cover. if you go to the race car section, the 1st one pictured(dan schlickenmeyer-yellow and white 93 LX) has the same set up, I believe. I used to work on that car when I worked at my uncle's shop. Everything in the suspension is griggs. It's low enough to drag the ramp of an enclosed car trailer without putting something under the tires. |
