Installing Struts

I'm installing some new struts -Tokico HP/Blue- on my 2000 GT.
It looks pretty simple, I have already installed the springs on a buddies car few months ago with no problem.
My question is on the top of the struts, after un-bolting the bottom from the steering knuckle, do I just spin off the large nut on top of the strut with a air gun or do I have to take the top plate apart (stocker)?
Thanks from sunny califonia :)

All you have to do is loosen the top large nut and strut will fall down. Make sure you support the control arm with hydralic jack.

We will be doing these along with springs, sounds like it wont add hardly any time to the job !
THANKS !

you'd think.... the front springs are a little more involved to actually pull out. Putting new ones in is cake.

Your right, I was referring to the added time of changing out the struts. I dosen't seem like it will add much time at all to the spring change out, since I will be in there already.
I can get a set of Tokico HP Shocks/Struts for $280 to my door. Any better prices out there?
Thanks again guys

Your going to need an air gun to get the bolts off and swap the mounting plate over to the new struts. Trust me you wont get it off without an air gun 80% of the time.

Yup. got a air gun. I have to swap out the top plate? I thought i would just spin off (with air gun) to top nut & it will drop out. The plate would just stay there...
What am I missing?
Thanks

Do you need the impact gun because the strut could spin or just because it's on there tight? I'm going to replace mine as well next week.

It spins on the shaft in the strut you need an air gun to get that bolt off to take off the top mounting plate and move it to the new struts.

I didnt have an impact gun so I held the strut rod with a scredriver and gave the box wrench quick, sharp wacks with a hammer which broke loose the nut. It worked all 3 times Ive had to replace struts.

I mean this isn't a problem for me since my friend has a compressor and gun but that just means I need to start my install Saturday vs. next week (which may work out better for me).
