a little help

whitethunder46 02-13-2006 07:28 PM

I got a bandbass box, dual 10inch JL Audio w1 (new last year) and a 700 watt autotek amp. Did it all for 600 with install VERY pleased. You will have a hard hard time fitting 12 inch subs in our trunks WITHOUT a custom made box.

cuban3jumper 02-13-2006 07:35 PM

I've got two memphis 12" PR series subs and a Memphis PR series 100.4 amp powering them. They hit really nice and hard but the amp really should be powering my memphis speakers. The subs could take a bit more power. One day I'll get a strong mono or 2 channel to run them off of and finally get my speakers the power they need.

Either way here's some stuff to remember:
1. Stay away from sony, audiobahn, and anything they sell at wal-mart LOL.
2. Get some good wiring please it can make all the difference, same as the enclosure.
3. Upgrade your HU if you haven't yet. The subs and speakers can only reproduce what they are getting fed, feed them **** your stereo will sound like ****.

I have the Mach 460 head unit and system so if you have that you'll be fine with just a sub and amp

WHC4TH 02-13-2006 07:59 PM

whitethunder i like ur setup

how long did it take u to paint the interior in the front the trim ring around the radio and guages and doors

whitethunder46 02-13-2006 08:03 PM

the front is 11 pieces altogether. About 45 min. to take out.... the A/C vents were a PITA, not really hard, just time consuming. Paint was about 5 coats, 10 min between coats. let dry for an hour. No clear coat. Reinstallation was 30 min, most just snaps back in.

Total time was about 3 hours, not bad at all.

I did the rear another day; headrest, speaker covers and two other minor things, only took an hour for taking out, painting and reinstallation.

If you do it correctly and prep correctly there isnt a need for a clear coat. So far everything is holding up great.

Do you have the mach 460 or 1000 system?

WHC4TH 02-13-2006 08:05 PM

howd u prep it what kindof paint and howd u get the one aroudn the guages out

whitethunder46 02-13-2006 08:07 PM

prep I used a rubbing alcohol. Do not use a soap or detergent for it will leave a layer on the plastic that the paint will not adhere correctly too.

Paint was Dupli color vinyl/interior paint. Can Find it at you local autozone/parts store.

The gauge bezel, there is two little allen nuts holding it in on the bottom of the top part, un screw those and then it just pops out.

Can't go wrong with JL Audio, are expensive, but you get what you pay for. They're more of a quality sub rather than a hit hard kinda sub.

Or Adire audio, Memphis, there are tons of great companies out their. Personally JL is a bit too over priced considering the compettition that's out. And trust me if you really want really great sound you're going to need a good hu. The mach 460 is ok for the average listener I guess, but I'm not an average listener.

Agree, I only paid 280 dollars for both 10 inch JL W1 subs and a niceeee bandbass box. Hell of a deal IMO all brand new and professionally installed.

I'd get 2 10's.... easily fitting under the mach 460 sound system. With my twelves they take up the whole trunk.. Here are pics. My MTX thunder subs and 1200rms amp cost about 2K.... way too much to spend right?

GREG@94GT 02-14-2006 04:51 PM

12incher are a B1TCH to get in trunk... especially w/ the verts cause the rear seat doesnt fold down... once forget about puttin anything in the trunk i.e. groceries, suitcases, people (dead or alive)...

but the 12's are DEF worth the sound... mine sound great whether its ACDC or stones, or any hardcore, and even southern rock and country... (i dont listen to rap)...

expensive though... i got hooked up BIG...

i'm gonna get them for free when i get a new rear...

And my 4 pioneer speakers (biggest that would fit), 2 1000w subs, sub box, capacator, giant chrome amp, and all wiring/ fuses ran me $550... my best friend has lots of connections with some custom car audio people he helped me out big... the woofers and amp were used in mint condition... he is real knowledgable w/ that crap and told me that the setup would normally go for $2000+ ... other people told me more...

i lucked out big...

ya need to make a friend like that... lol

I need use of trunk so I hid the 2 Rockford 10" HE2 subs behind 2 800a2 and a4 amps. I can still get to my spare with out moving anthing. I used two JBL tubes instead of a box. I will be cleaning it up a bit by installing panels to make it look like one piece.

Yea i know! It was awesome, I got them within the first month they came out. At the same time a local car audio shop just finished a re-modeling and had a sale, so I got each JL w1's for 100 bux each.

Also, the way they did my box is nice, it's tucked fairly far back and they cut it around the factory Mach460 amps. Basically the box is smashed inbetween the factory amp supports, it ain't goin no where!

Stang47 02-14-2006 07:30 PM

I just got installed Sunday 2 JL Audio 10" W6's and a 500/1 JL Audio Amp in a sealed box. The JL combination sounds real good and It hits real hard. Its louder then a couple of my friends who have 12 inch Audiobahns in their trunks. Payed 300 for subs/box and 250 for amp on ebay plus 118 for installation and i love it.

whitethunder46 02-14-2006 07:41 PM

Stang47, are those blue neons under ur car in your avatar?

Nah, just a bad sunset glare off of the Mach 1 Chin spoiler, in that little avatar it does kinda look like blue neons though doesnt it? Here is a little bit bigger picture of it.

Hey whitethunder...i was thinking about mounting my 6disc to either the back of my rear seat or on the back of the sub box...the only problem is that I dont want the vibrations to make it skip. Either way it would be getting a little vibration...considering my subs are facing into the car it would get the most on the back of the seat. My amp is mounted on one side of the back of the box and there is room on the other side (i have 2 10's). I have it installed, but currently it is just sitting on the floor in the backseat. Any suggestions?

Also, my box isn't custom and i need to figure out a way to get it to stay put (doing donuts and 180's arent too good on the subs) so...do you have any suggestions on strapping them down?

most people mount them to the top on the trunk... not the lid but right on the edge of the inside on the ceiling...

whitethunder46 02-14-2006 08:06 PM

As far as the 6disc, no help there, but what exactly do u mean? like a 6 disc changer??????

As far as the box, mostly likely it's pretty heavy especially with 2 10's. Go to a local arts/craft store and buy about 2 square feet of velcro. Cover the enture bottom of the box with velcro and then the other piece on the floor of the trunk where you want it. You can find some good strong carpet tape and use that to stick the pieces to the floor and box. Put 2 and 2 together and that box shouldnt move anywhere.

herndy_1 02-15-2006 05:39 AM

Yeah its a clarion 6-disc changer. Well, I looked at mouting it to the top of my trunk also, but do they jsut drill holes in the metal? I am really not too fond of drilling in the metal, but if i can't find another way I probably will have to end up doign it. Any other mounting suggestions? Thanks.

venom 02-15-2006 06:11 AM

I mounted my changer in the middle on top. I used these really long 4" screws I got from walmart plus some foam to go on top of it so that it would not bobble. I cut out a notch in the panel where the amps are mounted so I can get the magazine out of the changer. If you live in a state that has high temps the glue from velcro may not hold up.

herndy_1 02-15-2006 06:14 AM

So you had to drill holes in the metal on the top of the inside of the trunk then?
