MACH 460 play MP3s?

Will a MACH 460 head unit (01 GT) play MP3s, as in burned on a cd?

mustangV6_04 10-20-2005 09:01 AM

Yes the MACH 460 plays mp3s considering my 04 has the 460 and most of my CDs are all burned because I spend all of my money on my car and not CDs.

MattJ 10-20-2005 11:10 AM

It will say Mp3 on your cd player if it plays it.

Only the non Mach audio will play MP3's. IMO its stupid that only the cheapo CD player plays MP3's.

If you're burning an audio CD off your computer it will change to an audio cd format, not remain as an MP3.

I tried it on mine, and it doesnt work.

I play my burned CD's all the time with no problem.

It's not a matter of if it's burned or not, we are talking about format of the file. MP3 is a data format and the file type for regular CD's is meant only for CD's. MP3's usually have pretty good quality and let's just say you have 21 audio files on a CD tops, well with MP3 CD's you can have up to 200 songs. You know how your blank CD's say 8 hours/ 700MB. Well the 700MB is the definitely on how much data it can hold. MP3's are data so therefore you can fit 700MB of MP3's on a CD.

Ford wasn't too bright on that one. The burned CDs work as others have mentioned, but I tried to use a CD with mp3s on them and no deal. Like the above guy said, it's because of the file type. First, the program I used didn't want to let me put over 99 tracks on there. Then, I put them on there as misc files instead of music files, but it still didn't recognize the mp3 format. I picked up a FM modulater for about $25. You just plug it into the mp3 player, tune the radio, and there you go.

i know what you are talking about but i have never burned in that format. If i could playback that many mp3's on my Mach system(off of one CD)there would be no need for my mp3 player.

I've got the Mach MP3 or at least thats what is on the head unit. I assume from the hollowness of it, there are no amps other than the puney head unit. Does this sound correct? Anyone hooked an amp and sub to this unit?

MattJ 12-01-2005 07:08 PM

you have one amp below your cd player in your dash, and 2 more under your rear console in the back seat.

Yikes.. sort of whimpy for 3 amps. lol. Do you see any problem tying in a 200watt Alpine mono-amp and Infinity sub? I got to get some "feel" to this system. :)

MattJ 12-01-2005 08:56 PM

Its only about 220w RMS. Its a stock system and probably one of the best OEM systems you can get in vehicles of that price range.

Well thats cool. Guess I'm just deaf from all the concerts back in tha day!

I'd plan to get rid of that stock Mach headunit at least.. cuz it will break eventually.. I went through 2 of them :D

MattJ 12-02-2005 11:24 AM

Your hearing cant be that bad. I had a daily driven beretta that did 145dB with 1700w and a single 12. MY hearing is bad... lol. Id be at them shows helping others tuning and running through testing lanes to tweak mine. Ill tell you after a day of that your hearing was cloudy for 2+ days.

The Mach 460 is a really nice OEM system. I'm keeping my headunit and selling my pioneer. I love the 6CD changer. Out of curiosity, there's another amp under the stock headunit??????? I never knew that.

I believe that's on the earlier models, someone correct me if I'm wrong

I love my Mach. I added two JL 10 inch subs about 2 months ago along with a 900watt amp. I love my stereo, great clear sound and just the right amount of bass

Quick followup.. I installed 2 Infinity 10" subs in a sealed enclosure and used a lineout converter and tapped into the stock system. Quite amazing how much it added to the sound. I'm extremely pleased now with my mach460 (mp3)..

Here's the amp and subs..

damn crutchfield redirecting links... search for

subs Item #1081040W
amp Item #500MRPM350
