Audio question

I'm thinking about getting a new Headunit for the mustang, can anyone suggest a good one that I should go with? Also, what can I get to put in place of the stock cd player since it is below the rest of the radio headunit? See the pic I posted below if you don't unsterstand what I mean because I believe the 2001 and up mustang stereos are set up differently. Thanks for any advice.

I am not a big fan of replacing head units. I like to keep the interiors as stock as possible. I would actually shop around at some of those ricer tuner shops. Seriously, those guys know what they are doing and have acess to everything.

Ricers are good for some things.

Off topic, but what size speakers should I get for the doors. My right side is blow and rattles like a ghetto-mobile on some songs with a lotta bass. Im looking for some suggestions as Christmas time is rolling around.

Just about any DIN head unit will fit....with the 2 DIN set-up on your car you have many options. It depends on things like your favorite brand, what features you're looking for and how much you have to spend. If you want to keep your factory amps then you'll need a plug-in adaptor so you can just plug-n-play. Most stereo shops can help.
Speakers are the biggest upgrade anyone can make on the cheap - (kinda like gears on the engine/drivetrain side). Again, it depends on what brands you prefer or how much you can afford. I prefer American/European brands myself but they tend to be a bit more. Pretty much you get what you pay for with speakers but any upgrade from factory will be noticeable.
I have the Mach 1000 in mine and the only things I'll be changing is the front tweeters and the rear 10 inch subs...the rest is just fine for me.
Shop around and check out eBay. Good luck.

i have a 99 mustang gt with the mach stereo and i just replaced the head unit because my cd player wasn't working right. i put a Kenwood MP425 cd player and it sounds great. i was really impressed. fords mach systems all of them i think are awesome sounding factory systems and i thought the head unit might mess up the sound but it sounds great. yes if you get a din style head unit (basically the same size as the factory) it will fit right in with no modifications. as for the wiring harness you will need to get the one with rectangular clip and a little square one. it costs around 20 bucks depending on where you buy it. i got mine at autozone. just make sure you get the one for premium stereos. as for replacing the cd player i'm going to get the little storage compartment piece that goes there in like the V6's. i don't know how much it is but i'll pry just go to ford and get it. i've tried ebay but can't find it. hope that helps. oh yes i reatained all the factory amps and everything. i just wired up the harnesses to the cd player plugged them into the factory harnesses and played away. i can put the factory deck back in and no one would even know the difference, just in case you were wondering.
