How To Disassemble Headlights
How does one go about disassembling a headlight housing? I need to actually get inside of the housing. I wet-sanded my headlights and some water/soap got through the vent holes, dried inside, and left a few water/soap spots here and there and I can't stand looking at that.
I've heard "baking" the headlight in the oven between 200-250 degrees for upwards up ten minutes? Sounds dangerous and I don't want to run the risk of having to spend about $180 on new housings when all my current ones need are a little TLC. Has anyone done this before? |
You need to heat it up with an oven at 180-200* for say 10mins then take it out and gently pry the lense off. AM.com used to have a thing on this.

Back when I thought projector headlights were cool, I stumbled upon this video explaining how to make your own projector headlights, the first video explains how to take apart the headlight housing.

Thanks guys! You're the best I'm going to try today and I'll get some pictures up of the shiny new housings :)

Any idea if this can be done to the stock foglights? I'd like to get those apart too..

I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing that they're the same as a headlight housing. A lens glued onto a housing.
Post some before and after pictures. I'm not too big on spending 2 bills on getting new headlights and mine are kind of crappy, not sure if it's the inside or outside but I'd be interested in trying this. |
