opinions on brake caliper paint.....
 

Ok, so I am gonna paint the stock calipers red with the duplicolor kit here on AM. I just want to see what you guys think looks better. The first pic is the mach or bullitt brakes. These are red on top and black on the bottom bracket part. The 2nd pic shows how someone painted their calipers with the kit from AM. They painted the top and bottom both red. I know they are not the same caliper, but which one looks better. I dont want it to look stupid and over done once I'm finished. I want it to look the way it is supposed to.

Also, anyone know if wheel cleaner and brake cleaner will mess up the paint on the caliper once they are done??? Like if I use it on the wheel and brake parts like 2 months down the road. Will it fade or remove the red paint??

I got a paint kit from advance which used some kind of duplicolor paint in a can, which i still have alot left of. I didnt want spray on so it was the kit for me. I brushed it on and its done fine thru my aluminum cleaner. BUT no paint will handle brake cleaner, probably even car clear coat will get ate with that stuff. What you want to use to prepare for the paint is use brake cleaner on ur claipers andscrub em and u'll be surprised at what comes off, i removed previous paint on mine with brake cleaner. Mines held up well, my last paint job was on the car when i got it wrecked.

EDIT - also, i painted everything even the retainer thingy.

MMMMMMMMM coil overs in the first pic that 5.0 must be pretty crazy the guy went all out on the suspension. Even switched to 5 lug.


Even so the red with black looks the best go with the first one

Yeah I have mine painted like in the first picture.

But I bought my paint at like Advance as well, and i have used wheel cleaner spray and it didnt harm them at all and that stuff was pretty strong too. But I put a good bit of clear on when I did mine so they would hold up

Too bad their UPR. Which means their pretty cheap probably.

Definitely not a set of Tokicos or something related.

UPR is generally Eibach which aren't nearly as good as Tokico IMO.

eibach makes quality stuff that isn't overpriced

I went with the first, over a year now and the paint looks the same as the day it was put on.

I got the same kit a few years ago, Looks great, had to do some touch up here and there, But I kinda like the red bracket instead of black. But also I think if the black freshly painted it would look good too. I left mine like it was. Either way looks way better than silver. ;)

Learn from my mistake.

I used the kit from AM and painted my calipers black. God, what a pain in the ass it was. The paint dried WAY too fast and 'fucking shitty' are best words I can use to describe the brush it came with. I'm glad I had some spare foam brushes laying around or else I wouldn't have been able to finish painting the damn calipers.

I'm pissed at myself for using the can paint because I knew from the moment I painted the first caliper that I was going to have to do it over and do it over again soon. If I would have done it right the first time, I would have had to do it over again, but most likely later down the road.

When I have to do it all over again, I am going to do it the right way. I'm going to take the calipers off, sand them down a little, primer them, and paint them with the same kind of paint, but in a spray can, and then clear coat them. It will look better and last a hell of a lot longer that way.

yeah ill for sure post pics when its done, but that wont be for a couple of weeks. Someone mentioned a kit at Advance auto, so Imma go and check that out and see what it looks like. What type of clear are you planning on using? is there one that is made for high temps?? Plus im still deciding if I am gonna put something on the caliper like "mustang" or a pony, or "232". So ill just plan on going to the craft store and buying my own brushes and some sandpaper. You said u used a foam brush. Is that better to apply than a traditional type. I want to do it right the 1st time also so it doesnt look like ass and riced out, so i dont mind taking my time on the initial procedure.

Maybe ill paint them neon green like the other ricers and put AEM on the caliper or a honda H dunno yet :D

The one you get from advanced or autozone will be the duplicolor caliper paint kit. You will need to get some better brushes though. Mine fell apart after a few strokes. The optimal way to do would be to remove the caliper and clean, primer, then spray and clearcoat. But the Kit is ok for just making your stock calipers look better, without removing anything cept your wheel. They won't look as good as some prepainted Brembo's or such. But stock calipers are just that. Just make sure you get them clean before painting.. ;)
