Finaly Bass

1 Attachment(s)
wow, my mustang finally has bass, i just put in my JBL W10GTI sub with my 450m alpine amp. i still need a bigger amp to meet RMS of the sub, but it works for right now..

the box is not done, i still need to make a new ring for the sub to set on, and get the tube for my port made, (hince the tony stewart towel wrapped around the sub to seal it off, and it going into my port hole...) and get some carpet to wrap it in, my amp is mounted on the back slant.. there is no room in convertible trunks it took me like 2 weeks to design something that is 1.75 inches cubed of volume, and almost 10 inches of back spacing to put the sub in.. its almost as long as it is wide,
Attachment 20303
but i am supprised with this sub, like it hits hard, for only having a 450 rms amp and its rated at 600 rms 3000 max.. its nice.... i can feel it through the seats, but i guess my treb i still really loud, because its not an overwhelming bass. if i had just a tad more it would make a erfect balance at volume 30-38, Aftermarket HU

nice set up, i had 2 kicker cvr12s and a 750w class d amp.. i loved the bass but i only kept it a few months, i'm more into goin fast and my huge ass boxes weighed the car down so i sold everything..

SxyXc 01-05-2009 08:13 PM

the sub helps keep me out of trouble, i like to carve corners (cops don't like that so much) and with the sub, i have to drive more careful or i will tear my trunk up.. also the same with hard goes, and fast lane changes (got pulled over for an illegal lane change before that was stupid)

krenogin 01-05-2009 08:51 PM

hah, dude id keep that setup if i were u, i would not increase wattage. i had a cadence a7+hc amp (still do, for sale) and its craazzzzzzzzzzzyyy on power draw, when the bass would hit it could stall my car engine.. And eventually it killed my alternator,, so i have 2 memphis's at 100w rms each with a 100x2 amp,, and its plenty enough,, ill post pics later!

SxyXc 01-05-2009 09:29 PM

well i atleast want to give the sub what it needs, and that would be 600w RMS, not the 450W RMS i am powering it with, it will keep the sub alive longer.. its not like i am going to put a 1500W amp with 3000W max in, that would power the sub to full capacity, 1 too much battery draw, and 2 too much bass, i only need enough to hear inside of the car... not 3 blocks away...

01 RED GT 01-10-2009 11:08 PM

nice man thats a heavy duty sub but i believe 1500rms would destroy it not put to full potention lol, but yea you man want a bit larger of an amp on it but i do like alpine amps, how do you have it wired? b/c that is a dual 6 ohm sub so wiring it parallel will give you a 3 ohm load so you prolly arent even getting 450 outa that alpine

SxyXc 01-11-2009 01:52 PM

i have it wired in parallel so i am getting the 3 ohm load...

i tired this sub in my friends enclosure (totally wrong for the sub) too big of port, and not big enough of volume. but he was running 2 10" with a 1200w RMS amp. and this single sub, blew them away. and they were in there proper enclosure..

anyone know a good amp that will power my sub sufficiently even at a 3 ohm load?? because i will have to get two of these in order to get an 1.5 ohm load and they will have to be in parallel, and three in series will get me an 4 ohm load, but i do not have enough room in my trunk for another on of these guys

yep how much you wanting to spend?

01 RED GT 01-11-2009 08:08 PM

phoenix gold ryval v8001- its 600 rms @ 4ohm 800rms @ 2ohm price- $149
kenwood kac-9104D- its 500 rms @ 4ohm 900rms @ 2ohm price- $169
alpine mrp M650- its 400 rms @ 4ohm 600rms @ 2ohm price-$199
hifonics bxi 1208D- its 450rms @ 4ohm 900rms @ 2ohm price-$199
Kicker zx750.1- its 750 rms @ 2ohm but very under rated, very good amp price-$299

these are all at sonicelectronix.com just look around for what you want

those look like good amps, but i have a 450rms at 2 ohm, with my alpine i really need something atleast 600rms like the first few, but how much would those be at 3 ohm loads?? thats what i need. and heck even something like a 1500RMS would still not peak out this sub, and as for money, well when i get a job, it won't matter too much i will just save for one.. but under $400 would be best...

01 RED GT 01-14-2009 09:14 PM

ah yea i gotcha, well if ur wanting a good size amp to push it and not wanting to spend alot go with one of those top two probably the kenwood, but if ur planning to just save up for one get you like that bottom amp the kicker 750 thats a kick ass amp it says its 750 @ 2 ohms but its honestly like 900+ @ 2 ohms so probably 700 @ 3 ohms, Memphis audio and MTX also make good amps to look into and alpine is still a good choice just need a larger one than what you have

SxyXc 01-22-2009 12:05 PM

i did some (lots of searching) and i found the amp i want, but its expensive... its a JL 1000w rms its the new series forget the name of it, but they are spoce to be patented, because they are spoce to run the same 1000w rms at 1ohm-4ohm. so none of this changing stuff because of the ohm load, its $1000 new but i am looking to see if i can find it cheaper

its actually kinda funny, the 700w rms one is $700... i find that funny how the price goes with the wattage, but yes very very expensive....

01 RED GT 01-24-2009 10:24 PM

haha dang yea thats weird and pricey but ugh hifisoundconnection.com has the jl1000 watt amp ur talking about for like 700 bucks but thats still kind of high

SxyXc 01-24-2009 11:10 PM

i would just go buy a good 600-700w RMS amp, but those are for 2 ohm loads (in most cases) and when you talk about a 3 OHM load you would be looking at something like a 1100-1200w RMS at 2 ohm to get the correct wattage at 3 ohms,

if i have been reading and if i am remembering correctly amps lose about half of there wattage from a 2 ohm load to a 2 ohm load, so i will be looking at around a quarter+ of wattage loss from a 2 to a 3 ohm load.. and its also finding an amp that will run stable at 3 ohms...

its kinda llike if the amp is stable you will actually have a higher RMS wattage ratting at 1 ohm than 2 ohms, same for if you can go down to a .75 ohm or a .50 ohm load. (which if i had three of these subs connected correctly i can actually achieve a .75 ohm load....
