Stripes?

Hey guys wondering woiuld a set of stripes from AM like these http://www.americanmuscle.com/lemans...black-8in.html would look good on my stang? How hard are these to install? As alot of things they look easy but I would like to know how hard or easy it really is from anybody whos ever done it? What else do you guys think I can do to my car for looks. I've got the chin spoiler, dropped and bumper inserts. Any opinions appreciated.

King 01-01-2009 09:42 PM

My person opinion is that lemans stripes are for S197s...

I'm not familiar with your car anyway, do you have pics? Maybe after seeing pics I can help more with suggestions.

Stephen4036 01-01-2009 09:45 PM

are cars are ugly with stripes except for a mach1 style hoodscoop stripe

lazyhomie1908 01-01-2009 09:46 PM

its the one in my avatar... Have another shot in my profile.

King 01-01-2009 09:51 PM

Oh God, another white mustang? Since when did people get WMR and MB confused? lol, I didn't even bother to look at your avatar.

Anyway, like I said I think the lemans stripes should be left to S197s...If I were you, I'd be more focused on getting rims appearance wise.

Mach 1 stripes should be left to Mach 1s.

lazyhomie1908 01-01-2009 10:12 PM

I agree with that mach 1 belong on mach 1...

And Roush wheels should be left on Roush cars.

I wasn't saying that because I've got a Mach 1, I was saying that as personal opinion. I don't think Mach 1 stripes look good if you don't have the shaker, the fact that I have a Mach 1 is pure coincidence.

Stephen4036 01-01-2009 10:50 PM

i bet...

and on white/silver cars that mach1 stripe looks great leading into the stock hood scoop

krenogin 01-02-2009 04:25 AM

Man, mines silver.. take a look! i got a 6.

For the love of all that is holy... do not get vinyl stripes. They are a royal pain in the ass. I had red ones on my '05 and ended up peeling them off. They faded and were starting to peel up in some areas, and I hated them.

If you are sure that you really want stripes, save up and get them painted on. You will thank yourself later.

i am not a fan of "fake" mustangs, or any car for that matter....gt's with cobra emblems, the shaker hood scoop and stripe are distinct marks of a MACH I. customize your car, but don't make a clone.

would you laugh if you saw a ricer, driving a G35, with a skyline badge or sticker....or how about that RHD civic...or all those idiots spending thousands of $$$ trying to be more JDM than the next ricer?

there are so many options out there to customize your ride, be original.

FYI, painting stripes is easy. go to your local community college that has an auto body/paint class. they can teach you for pennies on the dollar or you can find a veteran that has already taken the class to do it for less than those vinyl stripes...

or i am sure you could find a shop to do it for $50, with the economy the way it is right now.

Stephen4036 01-02-2009 12:01 PM

no one is gonna paint stripes for 50 bucks, to mask off the car, rent a booth, MATERIALS, time.. lol you might get a dumbass to do it for 50 bucks but the stripes are gonna look like s curves.

lazyhomie1908 01-02-2009 08:53 PM

Well definetely will not be able to get no one to do it for 50 bucks hell I wouldn't let them near my car with a paint gun as soon as they told me 50 bucks lol. I've gotten one of my bodyshop guys to go down to 300 for the stripes. He does quality work but then again I am faced by the prob that I am a college student which means not much money layin around. I was thinking that vinyl stripes would give a decent look to the stang which will set it apart. I have a friend with a monte carlo ss and he has black vinyl ones on his red car they look great. Just wondering anymore input?

afterhours 01-05-2009 01:21 PM

we are not talking stripes.......we are talking a simple Mach style stripe on the hood. a body shop does not need to rent a booth, they will have black sitting on the shelf, some sand paper and some tape to mask it.

i worked in a shop, its barely an hours worth of work....cost nothing to do.

its ok if you don't know how to do things.....just don't act like you do.

Dodobird223 01-05-2009 07:14 PM

Black stripes on white cars are sex. But I'm kinda biased...

+1 to that man, i don't know- nothing against the older year stangs- but stripes don't seem to look good? I haven't seen any pull them off smoothly atleast..

The Mach stripe takes the cake. Nice.

Astray 01-30-2009 12:42 PM

Vinyl stripes are THE best way to go, yes they will eventually fade and start to peel, but not if they are done right with quality people and materials. Not sure where you live, but here in Indianapolis there is a company that does a lot of the striping for all the local dealerships here in Indiana that does some pretty good work.

I've seen experienced bodyshops screw up vinyl stripes so don't bother with that route. You need to go to a body shop that specializes in aftermarket stuff like vinyl stripes, don't ever ask if they do vinyl stripes, try to find a place that specializes in it. If they get quality materials, the bodyshop should be able to actually give you a guarentee/warranty on the stripes, if they don't move on to the next place.

Painting is ok.... but its not worth the money, for GOOD painted stripes be prepared to pay at least 1k...

RetroGT2006 01-30-2009 12:44 PM

Shit $1000 for painted stripes? They shops that i have gone to charged $2000-$2300 for stripes.. painted, then clear coated.. They would remove the clear coat so it wasnt raised- then do it over.. looks great, but not cost effective..

Astray 01-30-2009 12:46 PM

Thats why I said at least ;-)

MustangSteve 02-01-2009 02:16 PM

I agree with BlackSunshine- I painted my Camaro's racing stripes and it's much better. I was actually going to get the LeMans racing stripe until I realized I'll wait and paint them on. However.. if you want the vinyls for only a period of time I'd recommend getting those. Paint on is permanent and can ruin the entire paint job lol. For the price vinyls are the way to go.. as for quality and durability paint is +1.
