HID Intensity (Temp)
 

Planning on getting a set of HID's for the Stratus soon and was looking for some feedback on the Temp you guys might recommend. At this point I'm looking at the 5 or 6k since those seem to be about the brightest and least blue/purple option.

What do you guys (especially those with HID's) think?

yeah you have it figured out right. 6K will be pure white. 8K is blueish anything above 8K is purple which is :nono:. Mine are 8K

Do you like the slight blue tint of the 8k, or if you had it to do again would you go with 5k? Most referances are saying that 5k is pure white, they brightest (highest lumens) available, 6k has a very slight blue tint and 8k is noticeably more blue with anything over 10k being bright blue all the way up to purple at 16k..

I just f-ing hate all of the stupid people around here that have HID's and they are so blue that they hurt your eyes..

I don't mind the blueish tint of them but then again that's all they had with the kits they came out with when I first got the HID's so my opinion is probably bias. I've really only seen the 8K ones as well from inside the car.

8k are very blue. Me I would do 5k for sure. 6k if I could not find what I wanted in my price rang would be my highest temp I would go.

Yeah, I'm pretty much set between 5 and 6k.. Leaning towards 6k because I do want a slight hint of blue.. Either way they will be bi-xenon so I don't think there will be any shortage of light. lol

Dustin, do you know what the differance is in the "Performance" and the "Race" kits on Sharp HID? I'm guessing the only differance is the wattage output? Worth the extra $$?

Yeah its 35 watts to 55watts and for a street car the 35 watt is going to be very bright just like all the other HID kits you see in OEM setups for the most part. I think there are a few who use the higher watt ones, but most are 35 watts.

The higher the temp the more lumens technically. Blue light has the greatest energy, therefore the greatest range. The stock HIDs that come on the SVT Focus and the Mustangs are 5.5k and 6k so I would stay somewhere around there if it was me personally. Mine are 6k and they look great. I even made my dad drive in front of me when we went on vacation this past year and he said they didn't blind him or anything at all.

were do you all buy HID Kits for the lowest prices?

From Asians over seas.... But they will take a while to get to your door.

I'd go with 6k

If you look at the HID kits on AM and look at the pictures those are 8k which I believe look too blue/purple. That is what makes people think you have your bright lights on. But, it's all in what you want.

Well, technically from all of my reading.. 4300- 5K has the highest lumen output.

Just ordered a set of 5k bi-xenon's for my Dad's Ram and a set of 6k bi-xenon's for my Stratus R/T!

We'll see how it works out, ofcourse I will post pics when I get them. :D

You sir are correct, 4300k puts out the most light. I like 5000k better because its more white and not blue.

Where did you end up getting them from?

I ended up ordering them from SharpHID, they had the best price on the bi-Xenon's and I don't think anyone can beat the lifetime warranty.

I wanted the slight blue tinge on my car, (kind of like my dad's Cooper S) and I figured my dad would want the pure white so we'll see how it works out. I'm pretty excited, I've always wanted them and it will be the first "mod" for the Stratus.. Just wish they made the right size for my fogs too, I guess I'll have to keep looking for those.

Probably going to end up replacing most of my other bulbs with LED's soon too, I love how they look on all of the Lexus' just seems to look so much cleaner.

I've seen some nasty hids that were hot pink, lol.

The way that they measure lumens is by the human eye. Once blue light strectches out so far the human eye can't see it any more, but it's there. Kind of like how at night it's not really pitch black it's just that our eyes can't see the light that is there. This is why people that are colorblind in reds can generally see better at night because their eyes are more fine tuned to see the blue light at night. For the human eye 5k-6k is best. I should've clarified my point sorry, but yes you are correct.

If I'm correct bi-xenons keep the natural low/high beam of your car. This way you don't have two different blubs, one for high one for low. Most kits that I've seen now are bi-xenon whether they say it or not.

bi-Xenon's are true HID's, like ^^he said they give you the option of still having a high and a low beam just like HID's in production cars. "Standard" HID's are low-beam only.
