White LED back up lights rice or not?

2 Attachment(s)
So my parents place and our place in NC has no lighting at all and backing out of the driveway sucks at night which is when I am almost always leaving. I saw someone post about superwhite LED backup lights that are much better then stock.

So rice or functional you choose.

I am thinking about it because you can do it for around 8 bucks total for both LED lights shipped. I see another company sells them for $14 per bulb lol.

Here is another mustang with LED backup lights. Looks much brighter then mine.

do it

What color are the bulbs of the ones your looking at? I've seen that are blue, and just don't look right during the day. If they are clear then defiantly go for it. Been thinking the same, with 5% tint on the rear seeing out the back is a bitch at night and esp. in the rain when I can't roll down the sides to see.

spike_africa 12-12-2008 07:08 AM

Yeah same here, given I only have 15% all around minus the front at night its kinda dark and this would be a cheap way to see better out the back. I have been looking at superbrightleds.com and they have two options. One is warm white which they list as 3100k so its a yellow/white light. The other is cool white and is listed at 5000k so its a white/slight blue to it. I would get the cool white as it should put out more light then the 3100k light would.

So no one wants to claim this as rice? lol.

King 12-12-2008 07:14 AM

I figure if it works, it's not rice.

IDk, would you claim HIDs as rice? lol

Okay maybe 11k+ would be rice..

venom 12-12-2008 09:24 AM

Its not rice. My GS350 has white leds all over and its incredible how well it illuminates compared to standard bulbs. Ive been thinking about doing the same thing to my gauges. All you really need is some leds and resistors. Leds have different veiwing angles which come into play in the case of the rear lights. I bought 100 leds with resistors from Ebay in China and have had no issues for about $10 a while back. The resistor does get a bit warm but so far nothing has burned down lol.

Stangurey 12-12-2008 10:38 AM

Do it, sweet look to it. Anyone have any sites that they've bought them off of? I might try the same.. :t:

Wombozi17 12-12-2008 10:46 AM

looks good to me! maybe ill even give it a shot. where exactly were these LED's coming from? Do they plug in the same as a regular bulb?

spike_africa 12-12-2008 12:23 PM

Yes they sell ones that plug right in. you can get them at www.superbrightleds.com

Stangurey 12-12-2008 12:59 PM

Nice LED site, thanks... Now if I only knew how to hook up some of these other LEDs they sell, I'd be all set..

spike_africa 12-12-2008 01:03 PM

You just need to know what bulb the backup light takes which they have a list for or look in your cars owners manual for the number then choose a bulb you like with that number. For backup lights you should not need to change anything but the bulb.

Stangurey 12-12-2008 01:20 PM

Yeah, I know all that. I'm looking to do some custom wiring in my trunk but am in the process of learning everything which sucks.. and is time consuming. They have some cool LEDs which would be perfect for all of that. I need like a manual or something. I did see some nice LEDs on there to replace my license plate light which will look awesome. Oh, and an LED for my interior dome light..

mustangrn 12-12-2008 04:54 PM

Hell, I'll do that myself. My driveway sucks at night.

lazyhomie1908 12-12-2008 05:28 PM

Do it man it would look killer heck i might even do it 2 my stang also just to make it look better and of course help with the lighting

mustangV6_04 12-13-2008 06:56 PM

Do it and let us all know how they work out for you.

Stephen4036 12-13-2008 06:58 PM

tons of writeups for what sockets you need for gauge, reverse and shit.. ive seen ppl put LED's to light up the license plate.

krenogin 12-18-2008 05:13 AM

do you "reckon" we can find some of these at Advance Auto? I like the licensplate lights too! One of mine is blown. so id replace both and put LED's in! This is a great thread!

spike_africa 12-18-2008 04:18 PM

Most likely not, but that website has them for super cheap so get them there.

Why would you want to increase the lighting for your license plate? I would much rather keep that as discreet as possible. :D

Not that it matters with my car.

jseven 12-21-2008 08:52 PM

i got that, but which set do i buy?

spike_africa 12-21-2008 09:20 PM

Like I said you can look in your owners manual or on their site they have a link that will take you to a list of what every bulb and number that goes with it. For the back up lights its a socket style light and its #3156 iis the bulb you need.

zigzagg321 12-22-2008 03:21 PM

I voted rice...im the only one. that def makes me not rice. lol.
