Paint chip/dent fix
 

So... I got a new exhaust installed today! I love it, love the new sound and everything.
Sadly I also got something to make me feel the complete opposite about an hour after =\

I went to a car wash and I parked and was about to clean my carpets and I opened my door and noticed that I was more than likely going to hit it on this concrete ledge that the vacuum/shampooer was on while i was cleaning and moving in and out of my car and such so I decided to move my car back a few feet
I left the door open like a dumbass and reversed and nailed a pole =(
Make fun of me, thats fine.. I fuckin deserve it.

So. Any one know about how much it would be if I took it to a body shop? As you can see its bent inward and and stipped bare to the metal. I just went to the ford dealer and ordered some touch up paint, will arrive in 5 or so days..
Or would anyone recommend painting it myself? Any one got any sites they would suggest or any pointers/tips?

At least my passenger side is still awesome =D

don't even try to fix that yourself. it's not gonna look right whatsoever.

1. take it to a body shop
2. get a quote
3. cry over said quote because its not going to be pretty
4. authorize the shop to do the work
5. ???
6. profi...er...
7. enjoy your newly painted door?

I would reccomend taking it to a profesional Body Shop
Bc unless u have some major body work skills

yea ... get that professionally fixed. its probably gonna be a pretty penny, but it will be worth it. you will probably like how it looks now better than a DIY job.:dunno:

What about I attempt to fix it myself thhhen if I dont like it I can take it to a body shop

This reminds me of tommy boy when tommy bends the door backwords adn then manages to get it shut again. Then richard comes out to open the door it falls right off!

The metal will have to be pulled back out and then worked and smoothed. Not something an amateur can do. Sorry man, but your going to the body shop.

400 to 500 to fix it. In otherwords, I REALLY want to. I dont mean to make it perfect... Im just going to at least try to bend it back a little bit and paint it

DON'T DO IT YOURSELF!
1. the metal will never be smooth
2. you are goint to primer it aren't you?
3. are you getting the touch-up paint in a bottle with a little brush?3might as well use fingernail polish.
4. you don't have a paint booth.
5. you're not trained to use todays paints.
6. a half assed job looks worse than no job.
there's 74 more reasons not to do it yourself but i'm too tired to write them all here

Right now I dont have the money to fix my car
I do on the other hand have money to buy the paint, primer, and clear coat for it. Right now Im not too worried about fixing the bent in metal, I just want to at least cover up the bare metal thats sticking out and stop it from being able to rust

i understand. though you won't be totally happy with the finished product, the paint will look better than the bare metal. good luck on doing it. hope it works out for you!

Wow...that does suck. Really, the only way to do it right is to fix the door, and then, so you cant see a difference in paint shade from the front fender, the front fender, and part of the rear quarter panel should be blended.

A cheaper way to fix it might be to get a salvage door thats in good shape, and just live with the fact that the new paint on the door might not match the fender and quarter...unless you know someone who is really good at color matching / tinting.

Either way, that sucks man. I know you gotta be about sick.

yes, i totally agree, if you have a good selection of pick and pulls in the area spend a few weekends looking around there will be one the same color as yours, it's just a matter of when. prob be 100-150 for a full door and will be far less than a body shop repairing yours. nobody will ever know the difference as long as it is the same paint code on something that old. you can even switch out the interior panel if it has a different color interior. all your worried about is the exterior paint color of the vehicle u pull it off of. my stepdad buys wrecks and fixes them by browsing the salvage yards all the time then sells them and triples his money.

Sadly crimson, or Merlot is pretty rare and ive never even seen another mustang with the same color in person

Well, you could find a good door of another color, and take your car in to a body shop and have them match the paint. You could then either have them paint the door off the car, and install it yourself, or just buy the paint and clear and have someone you know paint it. Again, it wont be as good of a job as blending the fender and quarterpanel, but it's all about what you want to spend. You could rely on your insurance too, depending on your deductible. You do at least have a few options. If the car is clean and straight, i'd be much more apt to spending the cash to get it done right...its again all in what you want. Either way, good luck. If you lived closer, I could help you possibly. Im not a painter, but I do work for a restoration shop.

yeah, i didn't think of it being a rare color, might be hard to find in a junkyard, you still could get lucky though. too bad it's not a more common color i've see them in the yards they come and go you just have to be there when they come in to get a good solid door off one before someone else.
