Tail light tint
I am thinking about buying a can of this:
http://www.americanmuscle.com/spray-...nt-smoked.html To paint my tail lights. I tried to search and find some opinions on it, but I couldn't find much. Has anyone used this? Is the quality fine? Does it look good going this route rather than a cover? What does anyone think about how it would look on a car this color? And most importantly am I going to have any trouble with any sort of safety inspections if I spray it too dark? 1st reply: Stop compensating for small penis size. |
that stuff is garbage. i used it. it fades, rubs off, etc.
go get autobadges tail light overlays. i wouldnt waste time with that spray stuff some people have had luck with NHT i think... |

Autobadges tint overlays are way too overpriced in my opinion. Got mine off ebay for $20.
My car isn't the same color as your car, but close enough. Heres a couple pics to give you the idea: Attachment 21316 http://a104.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...324faee8cf.jpg |
I really like how those look Sean.. I can't find any on Ebay though. And I work for Ebay which means this is embarrassing. Did you get them from a store or an auction? What did you search for to find them.
Also a question for you. I think I might take off my spoiler, what did you do with the holes it is going to leave behind? |
how long have you had those ebay ones?
ive heared some people who bought some over ebay that ended up trapping so much heat the tail lights kind of warped and sagged careful with those. as for autobadges prices.... lets just say that a lot of the time you get what you pay for. :smokin: |
I have the overlays also. I have read about people having problems with the spray on tint. And I'd by VHT before I bought that stuff from AM. Thoes Ebay overlays look just as good as mine from Autobadges.

I had some laying around in my garage but everyone says you can get them at Lowes so id try there. |

I have heard of peoples tail lights getting warped but only from the hard tail light covers, never from a tint... |
Autobadges is and has always been way over priced... Sounds like Sean might be getting a job offer from ebay, those are pretty kewl shawn might have to look into that tint too. Are they like a 5% tint, always scary people not being able to see my breaks if I were to put the tint on?

i had the 20% from ebay for about 8 months. i had to re-apply them once because they started pealing but other than that they worked fine... until about a week ago some f*ucking looser stole them.. but i'm gonna experiment with making my own using regular window tint and a hair dryer...
|
Who steals tail light tint that goes for $20 ?
|
Sean is this similar to what you bought?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWDVW I have time to wait for a response lol. As an ebay employee I have to send him a message TELLING him I work for Ebay before I can even buy it. |

I actually tried regular window tint on a friends car. Didn't work like we thought it would, used a hair dryer too. Granted our tail lights arn't as curved as his (tried it on a mazda 3) so it just might work. Id suggest save the headache and just get another set offline. Window tint just isnt the same as the tint you buy offline for the lights. Regular window tint worked perfect for my sidemarkers though! |

What is yours? 20%?
|
5%.
|
Do you have any problem with brake lights being able to be seen? I was reading one description on Ebay who offered different % and he said he would only use 5% for show cars and not driving.

The guy said that he has 20% and 35%.
What do you all think 20% would look like on my car? How much lighter would it be than Seans? |
I would go with 15-20% than the 5%
Maybe I will put these on my Altezzas I have sitting around and see what it looks like |
Yeah I am thinking 20% will look good. I think I will get those and some bumber inserts and that will be the first thing I do besides wash my car! lol

I made my own for my third brakelight, side reflectors, and my turn signals (which were a pain in the ass). It wasn't too hard. I just bought the cheap AutoZone 2.5% limo black tint, some window tint solution, and a squeegee. I found some masking tape I had laying around the house, put it over the light, and traced the outline with a Sharpie. Then, I cut the tint with scissors, and applied it. It's been about a month and it is still doing fine. It just takes a lot of patience if you want it perfect. :)

I tinted my tails on my previous car with VHT Nightshade. Its a bit cheaper and DOES NOT come off for anything. I applied 3 coats first because as it dries, it will get darker. It wasn't dark enough for me, so I applied 2 more. I used half a can, it never faded and never had any problems with the police or inspection.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ightshade4.jpg The only downfall to this is you do lose a bit of the shine, but you can clear coat it to gain some back from what I hear. Also, it attracts dust. I live in a very dusty area so that helps. Just takes a quick wipe of the hand and they're clean again. |
