CAN I WIRE THIS UP?

So im thinking about buy a sub for my 2007 mustang with the Shaker 500 sound system in it. Would i be able to wire up this sub to my existing head unit or would i have to replace the head unit.

as i recall, you'll need an external amp to power a sub, assumming your head unit has pre-out's (rca's for amps)

correct me if im wrong

Yes i would be getting an amp with the sub

as long as you get the correct power rating for the sub you'll be running thats most important but you wont be able to run the amp/sub if you dont have rca outs on your head unit, which i have been looking up on google and i found out the shaker 500 head unit does NOT have rca outs so im not sure how you'll wire up your sub. Of course you can always get a different head unit such as an alpine but that gets to be a bigger job and more money. One advantage to getting an aftermarket deck such as an alpine is if you have an ipod, most of their decks have direct ipod input. My brother has a mustang, 96, and he put in an alpine deck, with the ipod thing for his ipod, and a 1200W sub/amp combo. Looks and sounds awesome and still has the stock speakers so thats the system im thinking of for you, if you want to see pics, ill be happy to send you some. good luck

yes you can keep your shaker 500 HU installed. I have an 06 with the shaker 500 and two 12's in the back. If you were a little closer I'd sell you my setup on the cheap, as I don't really use it much anymore.

Most amplifiers have high level inputs.

the way this would work would to run a jumper off the terminals for one of the rear speakers and connect that to the high level input, and the amplifier will pull the signal straight off the amplified source out fo the shaker 500 setup.

RCA's are ideal, but sometimes it is just as easy and less hassle to pull the signal for the sub off the rear speakers. less wiring and such
