Default Painting gascap

I'm looking for a black bullit gascap, but if i cant find one, what do you think of painting it?

I was thinking taking it off (anyone ever sone it before? to take it off is it the 2 screws on the right side of the whole?) sanding it down with a sander and fine grit sand paper, primer, gloss black auto paint, and clear coat...how do you guys think that would look? cus i saw a mustang with a black gascap and that turned me on to it...now i want to do it, post your opinions!
