Default rear window tint question

A couple months ago I got the car re-tinted darker with 15% on the sides and 5% in the rear.

Now my question is: on the rear window do you guys have the tint continue all the way up and over the matrix, or do you have it cut off just before the matrix starts. My previous tint stopped just before the matrix, the new tint doesn't. I didn't want a huge clear gap at the top but as i was afraid off the corners have started to peel because it doesn't stick well on the matrix at all.

-Should i have it cut and not have tint on the matrix at all?
-Have it reapplied?
-Or i was thinking of getting a vinal piece cut and applied ove the matrix instead of the tint.

Suggestions please????

Mine goes all the way up. It turned out kind of weird looking from the outside, but it looks fine inside and it does what it's supposed to.

How long have you had it?

Do you have your windows down alot?

I have mine rolled down 24/7 and i think the constant wind caused the corners to peel.Yeah mine its all bubbly looking from the outside like yours too, thats because the tint doesnt fully stick to the matrix.

Get a vinyl strip for the matrix area. You will not have this problem. Did you get this done at a reputable company? If so you should take it there and tell them about the problem. They should put a vinyl strip in there for free. If they have ever tinted a mustang before or any car with that crap on the window they should know if they tint over it it's going to turn out like a$$.

Exactly my point. I asked them what they thought about it and they said "my guys will do what they think is best, their professionals". Lol, Professionals my ass, all they do is tint windows...

Yeah i am going to see about getting that vinal done. They are a reputable company so they better not even try to charge me.

Huh, I've never heard of the vinyl strip. They just lay it on the back window, and it makes it look a lot better?

Well no, and yes. The Vinyl strip just covers the matrix area at the top of the window instead of the tint. Which will stick much better than the tint.

Will no longer look wavy and bubbly from the outside and won't have to worry about the tint peeling off the matrix like mine did.

I have the vinyl strip on my car and I love it. Looks good from the outside and it does not mess with you vison from the inside.

I had the tint going all the way up on both of my Mustangs. On the v6 it was starting to bubble and look kinda odd. On the GT it's perfect for right now. I liked the tint better on the v6 though becuase it was very reflective in the right light and made it nearly impossible to see in, but still easy to see out like a one way mirror.

Mine goes all the way and i was told by them that it happens sometimes where it wont stick there. I rode with the windows up for like 3 weeks and now 4 years later tint is still good.

Are you still able to see out through your vinyl piece?? If not, its no big deal since its at the very top. Just wondering.

I can only see about 1-2 inches of the vinyl strip when I look in the rear view mirror. It doesn't affect sight out of the back window at all. You cannot see through the vinyl strip but like I said when in the car you can only see 1-2 inches of it anyways.

I have the vinyl strip there also. I have been going to the same shop for years with all my cars; they do a great job. Once I find a good place I always go back for more!!

The proper way to tint over the matrix is to lightly sand it with 2000 sandpaper and to clean real good before applying it...any good tint guy will know this...

i just went thru this crap, it didn't stick on mine, i re-did the tint like 3 times, and finally just cut it off right at the end of the matrix. you can barely tell from the outside unless you know about it. i awlays have my windows open so it just kept peeling off the top.

Yeah thats what im about to do. Im gunna be putting a vinyl there. I have 5% on my rear window so it would be a really visable gap.

Yeah it has a life time warrenty. Im gunna go to them and let them know im not satisfied and that i want the tint cut right where it meets the matrix and that i want a vinyl there instead. If they gaurentee their work like they said it should be for free. If not ill have to fight them about it till i get it for free, cause im not paying for thier mistake. Ill pull the whole "if your a good shop you should have known better blah blah blah..."
