subs with stock head unit?
I have the mach 460 unit with the cd6 head unit. I love the stereo but i want more bass too it and wanna be able to keep my cd6 unit. Im not totally sure of how subs and the amp are connected, is there is a way to have subs without replacng my stock headunit. Can I hook an amp to the back off the unit? Is there a adapter kit needed? Everyone ive asked said ill need a completly new head unit, but im sure theres a way aound it. I only want one 10" or one 12".

I have the stock head unit with a sub connected. first run your usual stuff for yor amp back there.(hot, groud, ect.) Since the stock unit does not have a remote wire you will have to find were the factory remote wire is for the already stock amps. This is located in the 99-04 model behind the rear seats in the middle under the rear deck lid. I am not for sure of the colors right now, but I will look in the moring. To make a long story short hook in to that and that is your remote wire. Next you will need a box that changes your rear speaker wires (also found in the same location as the remote wire) to rca jacks. You can get these at walmart I believe. Next hook everything up to your amp and rock out. It is simpler than it seems, but if your not to sure about it may be best to let a professional do it. I'll try to get those colors of the wires to you tomorrow.

Hey PZ. I dig how you painted the insides of your side scoops to match your callipers, looks really cool. BTW, how do you like your tuner? I'm trying to decide between the SCT and the Diablo. What do you think?

Holy shit. I don't know if that was an actual apology or not.
So we have had someone say that even the "pros" couldn't figure it out, and someone say it is possible.
Is it? Yay or nay. I wanna toss in a sub and amp, but I really like how the stock stereo looks as opposed to an after market one.

Exactly dude. I really wanna be able to keep my cd6. Jjmustang04 has done it though. I kinda understand what he was saying. Im assuming the amp and sub must be connected to a remote wire (which is not on the back of the stock head unit, but instead in the trunk where the 2 small amps are located). Then after that you connet RCA wires to other wires then its just a plug in connection. He said he will let us know the colors of the wires needed once he has time to look.

I don't even have a CD6 I have just always preferred to look of a stock stereo rather than an after market one with a transfer case. If I had to switch one out I guess I would, but to me that is just another ~$200 I could use on something else. I like bass. But to me I dont need to spend extra money for something that does the same thing.

Exactly. $200-$250 saved is just money I can put towards something else on the car.

96gtstang- Not 100% sure, but im thinking it can be too yours aswell, as long as the remote wire can found.

Ok I took some pics of the wires to splice into. I also did some more research and and found another guy who has done the same thing. His pics are alittle better.
O.K. the pics that I have are of the wires that I spliced into that go to the line converter box that converts the rear speaker wires signal to RCA jacks. The wires are found under the rear deck lid behind the back seats. The wire colors are (2) black wires with white strips. and (2) Black wires with green strips. The ones with the white strips are the neg. wires. Anyhow splice into these wires with some more speaker wire and then plug thise wires in the line converter. Then hook up RCA jacks from the converter to your amp.
For the remote wire on my car I wanted to be able to turn my amp on and off so I used a toggle switch. All you have to do is find a hot wire that is hot all of the time. Plug it into the the toggle switch and ground it.(the switch) Run the remote wire from the toggle switch to the amp. Then pull a hot and ground wire for the amp. and rock out.
Like I said in my previous statement you can find the remote wire for the stock amps and splice into it, but I wanted to turn my amp on and off when I wanted to. Me and my friend did this in his 01 model buy splicing into the stock amp remote wire. However I could not get to his house to see the color of the wire. I like my toggle switch way better anyhow. i hope this helps anyway.
By the way the site for the other guys install is on www.mustangworld.com it is in their how to section.
If this seems a little hard or you are completely lost I would at least call and see if some shops in your area could do it for you. Hope this helps and if you have any questions just post or pm me.

ok a remote wire is easy as can be you can connect it to almost any power source in the car that is on when the key is on and the amp will come on or you can put a switch on it to make the amp come on when you want. as for the rca jacks you can find a hi/lo converter at any audio storeor probabbly walmart all it does is take the signal from the stock speaker(highs) and convert that signal to bass very simple that box shouldnt cost more than 30 bucks
