How to protect chrome wheel

Hello everyone!

First, I would like to wish a very Merry Christmas to all members.

It's my first post here and I'm a French Canadian, so sorry about the quality of my English.

I would like to know what is the best product or method to protect my chrome wheels. I purchase a set of 20" chrome bullit wheels for my Mustang about 2 years ago and the chrome start to fall serioulsy on one of the wheel (I will have to replace it). And some chrome start to peel off on the other ones.

Here is the model I have: http://www.americanmuscle.com/chrome...el-20x8-5.html

Before changing it, I would like to know if it's possible to help protect them?

Thanks and all the best!

there's a spray on product that will haze them a bit but it's great surface protection. I've seen it used on Powerblocktv (powerblocktv.com) on their project Haulin' S-10 to keep paint overspray off the wheels. Other than that, any clear latex aerosol will help keep stuff off them.

As for chrome flaking off.. that's a crappy chrome job. The best way to fix that is to get them re-chromed at a good metal finishing shop. I'd probably choose the re-chroming route. It's not expensive.

oh.. and your english is better than most of the US high school graduate population, so good work.

with my chrome wheels on my 03 cobra I used Clearkote metal polish then followed it up with clearkote carnuba moose wax. It was awesome on them; the wheels had pretty close to 50k miles in 4 years and not one mark or discoloration at all.

The site is www.clearkote.com

Here are a few pictures of my wheels following the steps above:

To protect them just use any paint sealant. Are they clear coated or not?

No different then using a paint sealant. Theres no need for two separate products.

Hello everyone.

I don't think the wheels are clear coated.

Thanks a lot for your advices, I will certainly try some of them.

Regards,

Guy

You can either see the clear coat, or you can test it using a true metal polish. If your applicator is turning black, then the wheels are NOT clear coated. If the applicator doesnt turn black, then they ARE clear coated. Test a wheel and post back.

Hello Dan,

I will certainly give it a try and let you know.

Thanks!
