Can I add an AUX input to the stock radio?

Hello fellow mustang owners...

I have a zune which I play with a casette tape adapter, i've done this with my previous player too. Unfortunately the the tape deck loses sound quality and I have to continously clean it and it just sucks overall...i mean, who uses a tape deck anyways! ;)

I was wondering if there's a way in which I can add an aux input to the stock radio. the output doesnt need to be on the dash itself and I can just run the cable around from the back of the radio to the front.

I have a 2k with the casette/radio deck on top and the CD player on the bottom.

would such thing be possible...and if so, how do I go about it?

thanks,

ceez

i think if it's stock ur screwed. ya can get an FM transmitter, they work alright...otherwise if ya get a new head unit u'll def. be able to.

Yes, it is possible, pretty simple in theory, you could always eliminate the Tape deck and find the point where the Tape portion integrates with the preamp. From there you would have to take the l.r signal inputs to the Pre and have them reconnected to some composite rca inputs.

However, that is where the easy part ends. You would have to be extremly adept at reading schematics, be one hell of a solder slinger and depending on the signal levels at the integration point built out another ckt that would make the signal levels compatible with rca inputs.

Yer better off getting a newer AM/FM integrator or sticking with the casette input, or just buying a new deck altogether.

thanks!

guys thank for the reply, after some additional research it seems easier to actually buy a new deck with the aux input already. I kept reading about an Audiovox FM Modulator but for 50-60 bucks more I can buy a desent deck.

I guess i'll scratch the idea all together!

thanks again,

ceez

yes Jack is Smart! LOL!

now I have a follow up Q.

If I get a new deck would there be a problem if I then have a new deck and the stock Cd player right underneath? Can I get what I believe is called a CD delete or radio delete? I guess what I am trying to get to is can I have a new deck with the old stock CD player and If I do get rid of the CD player will it give me problems with the new deck?

thanks again...

yeah you would just buy a whole new CD deck, there will be a harness and an install kit you will need as well. the install kit will have a big face to it and will fill in the gap since yer going from a double din to a single din.

actually my cd player is a complete separate unit from my radio/tape deck. I will only be removing the top part (radio/tape) and just keeping the cd player alone. Would there be any problems if I remove the factory radio and leave the CD player with a new deck? Will there be audio problems? I've heard that they manufacture these things so it wont work if they are separated.

Also, where can I find a "pocket" so I can also remove the CD player and use it as a small storage pocket to throw stuff inside? I tried ebay by searching for console pocket and other queries but no luck.

this is what my console looks like:

and thanks again for the help,
