You dont need to wash with dawn just wash with regular car soap and clay it after you wash it like you said. You dont need to use a cleaner wax if you use a polish. A clearner wax is more of a light polish and wax mix. So if its all you got use it otherwise use just a pure wax or sealant. Otherwise looks like a good list.

I'd say drop the ice, its not really wax. And for your headlights...wet sand with 1500-2000 grit sand paper, then use a polish with an auto buffer. and work the polish good, let the product breakdown.

It might come out alright, nothing too special. Are you using a buffer? What kind of Megs polish?

for the polish i think that its color X
and actually i do something kinda like this every month, but without the whole dish soap and claybar, and i don't layer the wax. and if it doesn't rain, i can keep my black car look nice with very little work. like just wiping of the dirt!! as for buffer, if i can find one i will use it if not. it will be a while before i can get one.. i'm LOW on money |

color x is a garbage ass product. At the least if you have little money go to autozone and get a decent polish like the Maguires, mothers polish.

I am thinking about stripping mine down soon with the dish soap thing, and trying some Meg. NXT Wax and see how that works, but havent grasped the concept of spending $17 for some wax just yet...I know it dont seem like much, but thats gas money!

Yeah thats true, glad he is wanting to take the time and take care of it. Alot of kids these days sure dont. I try to wash mine at least once a week and my g/f and kids think I am crazy, but I try to take care of things and keep them up. Especially when I drive on the highway everyday almost 80miles round trip!

The dish soap thing is old, you dont need to do that. And while NXT looks good it doesnt last long at all. I would use something else unless you wanna wax your car every month.

I like to use dish soap before I use a clay bar. I figure why not strip off the old wax and start fresh ??
Thats alot of work to do in one day. I usually clay bar and then use Meguiars three step process once a year. I do everything by hand but I spread it out over a couple of days. I have never tried the NXT wax, but I have had good results with the regular wax which is cheaper. I heard NXT was better but you need to reapply it often. |
