01+ Stock Hood Scoop
 

I have a 00' GT and the hood has the indent instead of a raised scoop. Is there anywhere to purchase just a simple raised scoop (like stock 01+) without replacing the hood?

Well I've spent a couple hours searching.. and I've found a few sites, but don't know how reliable they are. They're asking 200-225$ for a primed scoop. So I guess now I'm asking if anyone knows of any pre-painted scoops.

You can buy a factory scoop directly from Ford. Talk to Randy in the parts department.

Search Ebay for the color you are searching for...

I looked through ebay, and they just have a bunch of scoop decals and a few actual hoods. I'm considering going over to a few junkyards to see if I can find anything in decent shape.

I usually see them all the time on Ebay...hold off for a little while...They'll have some on there.

Hey I just wanted to ask you a real quick question. Since you directed me to Ebay, I take it you use it quite a bit? I've sold a few items but never purchased anything. I looked through and they have all kinds of things I'd love to add to my car. Is it pretty safe to buy from there and expect good quality items?

eBay is a crap shoot, some good and some bad. You just have to look/ read carefully and make an educated decision as to what you're looking to buy. Generally if it looks to good to be true, then it probably is.

Always use paypal to send money, as they can help handle fraudulent sales or items ordered and not recieved.

eBay for all intensive purposes has changed alot over the last few years, that is why they have grown so much and still continue to grow every year.

So, to definitively answer your question: Yes, it is generally very safe to buy from eBay, but always remember:

Thanks for the info. I'm registered through PayPal, so hopefully I won't run into any major problems. I'm not planning on making any huge purchases on there, as I can't trust people that well.

^^^ just look through their feedback and decide from there. I recently bought some new headlights from ebay which turned out to be great because other sites were charging about $100 more than on ebay. So look around and you can find some real deals, just beware

when putting a 01+ scoop on a <01 car with the indent hood, you'll find the scoop doesn't fit just right. To fix this and avoid having to cut anything or having chipped up worn down paint do the following:

buy 1 sq.Ft. of DynaMat sound deadener. Cut it into 1/4" wide strips and lay those down along the contact patch of the scoop with the aluminum side up. In the middle of the fore-aft runs you'll want to put a 2nd 6" strip on top of the first one. This will seal the curve and keep the scoop from blowing off at high speed.

Use the mounting screws and nuts to pull the scoop down tight against the dynamat. A pair of CD's (one kept flat against the hood, the other fully verticle) act as a set of paint safe scissors with the right technique to remove any excess dynamat. You keep them together so that as you roll them down the hood they're at opposite angles and the edges rotate against each other lilke a set of circular blades at a chicken abattoir.

you put your scoop back on???

sorta... the body shop put it on and they drilled holes to do so, so there's little point in not having it there now. They put it on pretty poorly though cuz we'd agreed beforehand that the hood was exempted from their warranty since I supplied a fibreglass hood.

I'm considering cutting the space under the scoop out to support some ... things. We'll see if the funding comes in like I'm hoping but there may be a need for 5.5" of clearance on top of my soon to be installed 5.4L hehehe.

just try to keep the aluminum top coating out of sight. This requires careful trimming but it is totally doable.
