alright, when I got my car the original owner had installed a shitty Sony deck in it and the rear deck speakers were pretty much gone. I have the Mach 460 system. The rear speakers were actually in place, but they had removed the whole rear deck, moved the amps, and the tweaters are gone. I replaced the deck with a nice Alpine and put some 6x8s in the rear. I believe the amps are still hooked up. My question is, should I just rip out all the Mach stuff and put a set of components in the front and call it a day, or if I have the ability to put back in the whole stock rear deck, go with that route? Basically, should I go back to stock with an aftermarket head unit, or do the 6x8s and components?

If you have the same setup as mine sn95 ours did not have that amp and speaker setup in the rear or at least mine didnt. I had just a tape player with cd underneath it. You can fit 6.5 speakers in the front and rear you may need to make/buy a adatper ring 6x8 to 6.5 . I would first replace all the speakers with componenets then see how they sound. Next would be a four channel amp. Sony is not the best deck but its better than stock and I would not get a new deck until the four speakers and an amp where added. If you want bass you will need to get another amp plus sub. My boston acoustic pro60 came with all the parts including adapter rings so I did not have to purchase anything all parts were there.

I have the rear amp setup, but the guy who had the car before me took off the whole rear deck. He mounted the amps behind the rear seats and then just put back in the woofers (very crappy at that). There are no tweeters anymore in the back and there are unused wires I have no idea what they are going to. I already have a new Alpine head unit and replaced the rear speakers with some 6x8s. Should I just say screw it and not even try to put the sound system back to stock aside from the head unit? I don't really need big thumping bass, so would just some components up front and in the rears give me a decent all around sound quality? Thanks for the input.

if you're going to use an aftermarket deck rip out anything stock. they sound crappy when driven by non-stock decks. Go over to Piersons in livermore and tell em Colin sent you. They'll take care of you.

Just get components for the fronts . Since you dont want add amps keep the Alpine HU. You will not have earth shaking bass but it will be clear and clean sound. You dont need separates for the rear since you want the music to sound like its in front of you and not behind.

Thanks for the advice fellas. Colin, is there any place that doesn't know you or have the hook up for. You are the man. I'll have to hit up Piersons. I alwasy see their commercial. I just need a set of components for the front and I should be set. It's gonna be fun ripping out all the Mach crap. I'm definitely keeping the Alpine HU cause its iPod ready and I never carry cds anymore.
