How can I remove oder from interior?
 

In addition to not fixing my car, the dealership has infected the interior with a nasty stench that I can't seem to get rid of. I tried Fabreez for autos, but now I can just smell the Fabreez on top of the sweat/body odor/grease that was already lingering. Airing it out hasn't done the trick.

What do you guys use that works well?

Maybe one of the mechanics left a dead fish under the seat. ha ha ha

I seriously would look in every little crack to see if someone accidently dropped something that is making is smell. Then I'd give the seats and carpet a good cleaning to see if that helps

man this sounds like the Sienfeld episode. Take it in and have it professionally cleaned to get it out. Sounds like your only choice.:postwhore:

if you can park your car in a safe place, then keep your windows open halfway. i have a garage and i keep my windows open constantly.

use a whole bottle of normal febreeze in your car doing the headliner, carpet, trunk, underneath the dash, underneath the seats, ect. dont be scared to do that process a couple of times.

Have you tried picking up an air freshener at a gas station? The cherry scented pine tree is my personal favorite.

I prefer the funky "tutti frutti" or "citrus." However, the cherry is a good one also. haha:postwhore:

It really depends on the source of the smell. If it's a smoker's car, then you need to take everything cloth out of the car (carpet, headliner, seats) and replace or clean with a heavy duty clener / odor remover. I've gone as far as to let them sit outside for a few days or in the basement for a long period. If it's from a specific spill or a fish left under the seat, then you only need to attack the source once you find it. Check under the consol, it;s odd the kind of stuff that will migrate there.

That is a good recommendation. All those other things will just cover up the smell for a short period of time. Id get a couple of these, http://autogeek.net/clairgefoair.html and the stuff whitethunder46 mentioned.

Awesome, let me know how it works. I have a feeling it will work well as the odor sounds to be very recent and hasn't been saturating in the upholstery yet.

A very very good detailer I know uses this and swears by it. Removes smoking odor like nothing he says.

You may also want to try a little Lysol. I had an Aspire (yeah... funny) some years back that smoked a tranny. After a month when it was finally done the inside of the car smelled like someone died in there. Turned out to be mold or something similarly alive. I lysol'd the car till hell wouldn't have it and let it air out for a couple days. Problem about 95% solved. Would have been more but I'm a smoker and that makes stink stay.

Come to think of it, I think MythBusters did an episode on this w/ the Corvette that they threw 2 dead pigs in for a week. I forgot what they used to get rid of the smell but they eventually found someone who bought it.

they never did get rid of the smell. I used to see Jamie Hyneman periodically walking around SF. Their shop is just down the street from where I used to work. Neat place.

you might also try steam-cleaning the upholstery/carpet. whenever our dogs have "accidents" in the house we hit it with steam cleaner. gets the stain/smell out of the carpet.

Steam cleaning w/ the combination of an odor remover is the best way there is with out tearing out and re-doing upholstery.

Mine still smells dealer fresh after 7 years :tongueout:
