gauge lights

i was wondering if the bulbs in my gauge cluster were replacable or if i had to order a whole new one. the color right now is this ugly green color and i want to put blue bulbs in there but i'm not sure if i can. anyone know?

the bulbs in the cluster are clear so i dont know what will make the cluster glow blue.

blue bulbs make it glow blue. they can be replaced by taking the gauge cluster out and unscrewing the 5 bulbs in the back. i did this but i only had 4 bulbs which made a gay rainbow effect from green to blue but it's definantly do-able. just make sure you have 5 bulbs. if you replace the bulbs in your gauges then it isnt going to match the rest of your interior lights. just a lil fyi. if i can recall i think the bulb is a 194 but i'd check in your owner's manual to be sure

considering the fact that the overlay is what is colored green. I would doubt blue bulbs would change the color. Pony up for some cheap white faced overlayes from some site and install them and use the blue setting and your good to go. I have the ones from american muscle. And while thats not my bag and i got them for x-mas i do enjoy them alot and they look factory after i played with them alot o get them fit right on.

no, i did this. putting in blue bulbs will glow blue

ive always wanted my guages to glow red..all of them..but i wanted to retain the stock clusters..

as for the blueish lights..it has something to do w/ the models...99-00 have more of a blueish-green look while 01+ have a true green...thats how it is in my g/f 00 and my 03

yeah i was asking because i really didn't want to get one of the white face plates. it wouldn't match the rest of my interior very well.

It's times like this when I really love the mycolor option on the new stangs.

Throw up some pictures if you get a chance. I am curious to see how blue it looks. Thanks!

It depends on the year. On the older cars you can do it, not on the newer ones.

phil_the_thrill 11-04-2006 10:43 AM

yeah i did it on my 98 but i took the bulbs out becuase i only had four at the time and there is five on the cluster so it changed from blue to green but i plan on doing it again soon and i will post pictures.

i think i am going to try it. i just put blue bulbs in my ac control piece and so far it looks good. gotta wait till it gets darker so i can be positive it will look correct.

phil_the_thrill 11-08-2006 12:45 PM

theres the ones i ordered the first time but i found some cheaper ones this time. you can search around on ebay if you wanna find some cheaper

souless7 11-11-2006 03:08 PM

crap...i took the gauge cluster apart to replace the bulb but turn out the bulbs in there are much smaller than the ones i bought...i assumed they were the same size as the buls in the a/c panel. i don't think oreillys carries blue ones that small...
