Front End Covers/Bra Questions/Recommendations
 

I was not sure where to post this but I am looking for people's opinion on what brand they would recommend for a full front end/sports bra for my '06 GT?

So far I have heard nothing but good things about Colgan. I have also heard of Wolf (but cannot seem to find one for my year vehicle).

Any recommendations out there? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I don't want to put one on but living out here in Cleveland just destroys your paint with little rock chips. I have under 500 miles on my new Stang and already had to patch up 5 small chips on my hood already and I want to nip this problem before it gets worse so I can enjoy driving my car...even on the highway!

I don't know if they make it for the new model mustangs, but I'd go with a 3M clear bra. I've seen them in person and you have to look to tell they're there. I'm actually going to put one on mine as soon as I can get a touch up paint job done to the hood and bumper.....

oh yeah that was an option but the fact is you can tell they are there...after awhile you are bound to gte knocks, and snags in the tape and that is going to look more horrible then a bra and eventually you will have to pay the cost for a new one and there will always be a minute color difference between your freshly waxed car and the clear coat film.

i wouldnt put a bra on except for long trips. most people, and i know from having to deal with them at the dealership i worked at, never take there bra off. the bra should be taken off every time you wash you car, what most people dont realize is that dirt and other fun stuff gets trapped between the bra and that paint and scatches it over time, so instead of protecting your paint you can damage it with out realizing it. out of site, out of mind, so to speak of. really think about your driving habits and how committed to taking it off every time you wash your car you really are before buying it.

if I am ever going to drive it on the highway I definitely need it...the car will never sit outside and if I can help it never see any rain either...

now at the slightest drop of rain touches my car the bra would be instantly off...also when I wash the car EVERYTIME...it will come off until I wax the car and it put it back on clean

and when I store it for the winter the bra will be off

So I went to the Ford dealer yesterday and they agreed with me that the chips I have on the lower part of my hood should not be happening. They said they would either repaint free (they don't recommend) or that I should get the transparent bra. They highly recommended I DO NOT get a vinyl bra because taking it on and off and the dust would severely scratch and be visible on a black car. He gave me the name of an expert to call.

I am still skeptical because I talk to a number of people who never have problems with a regular sports bra scratching.

So I called the expert this morning who also works for Ford. He said there is a product called Venture Guard that is better than the 3M stuff. He said it has a warranty of 5 years and you can wax and do all regular things over it. He said it goes on the font bumper, lights, fog lights, and lower hood...everywhere except the grille. He said it is virtually undetectable and will come in 5 years with no harm to the paint. It does not have UV blocking agents either. Now the only catch is the hefty price tag...$750...does that sound like a lot? I priced it out on the net and the materials cost about $350. I have no talent when it comes to putting something like this on.

Let me know your thoughts!

if you want to look at it with regret do it yourself and wish you had paid to have it done. or have it done by a pro with a warranty on workmanship. or say f*ck it and just drive your car the way it is, once you get your first door ding at the store its all down hill from there.

Why dont they recommend repainting it? Im thinking they just dont want to pay for that, unless theres actually a valid reason.

I am not sure...I guess because of the hassle and my luck it will just get nicked again...but the dealer I talked to today did say the Venture Guard is better and last longer than the 3M.

dude screw that, make them re-paint it. then maybe get clear guard but make them re-paint it at least. they just don't reccommend it because they are lazy good for nothing bastards and don't wanna pay for it

So I went to the Ford dealer today and visited the Fusion that supposedly had the clear bra on it. That stuff is crap for the money they want! You can see it on the car like 10 feet away as I was walking towards it and it looks like they have a hard time getting that over the lower lip of the hood too. After seeing how obvious it really was I cannot justify $600+ on a clear bra. I think it may be better to risk it and go with the Colgan sports bra and as my good friend says take it off every time it gets wet and every time you wash you car...and so on. That clear bra is not worth the money. I don't think the bra would look too bad on the black car.

What about this product I stumbled upon...any thoughts or have any idea how much it would cost?

Colagan bras are the only way to go. I have two, no problems, fit great, remove when you wash car and replace. I do leave off the car every now and then. Lots of bugs and road construction around my way. I have no chips on my cars and have had bras from day one...or at least week one. Stay away from lebra, covercraft, wolf ect...CHEAP! that 3m stuff is ok but I've seen it on dark cars and it looks hazed.

because it will never be like factory paint again and they warned me the chance of the paint bubbling up in the future...I had taht happen on my repainted F-150 before

No they don't. If you follow the rules you'll be fine. Remove after rain, at least a day or two later, and allow to dry before puting back on. You will get some dirt around the edges as water (rain) runs down the car, so just wash off the car with the bra on to remove most of it before removing the bra and wash the car. I've ALWAYS have had bras on my cars ( I don't like chips) and have NEVER had any trouble. People who have problems don't read the rules nor follow them. DON'T BUY A CHEAP BRA!!

Yeah I appreciate all the help. I think I am going to go with the Venture Shield clear tape product just to avoid the hassle of having to take care of a bra. But if I did go with a bra then Colgan would be my first choice!
