Wax ON! Wax OFF! Waxin my Whip!

Wax my whip again the other day. 04 Black GT

Gotta say, i really enjoy waxing my whip. I would wax my whip every day if i could get away with it. My girlfriend doesent seem to like it though. :tongue3:

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT THERE????" <girlie
"Uhh... What?... Who... Uhh... NOTHING..." <me
"YER OUT THERE WAXIN OFF AGAIN ARENT YOU?" <Girlie
"NO BABY! IM NOT! IM JUST CLEANING MY RIMS! IM NOT WAXING MY WHIP! I SWEAR!" :tongue9:

ANyways, LOL, back to seriousness.

I waxed my car about a month ago, then i waxed it again the other day. I used Maguires the prev time and Turtlewax Black the most recent.

It has a nice deep deep shine to it, way nicer than when i first bought it.

How often should one wax thier whip? A guy i work with told me that if you wax it too often you will dull the clearcoat.

Any reccommendations for a good schedule on the whip waxin?

Is there such thing as too much whip waxin?

How much attention to your car is overkill?

Waxing every week is pointless. I usually put 2 coats on at once every month. I just tried out some eagle 1 wax/polish on mine last week saturday and it still looks clean, however, it lacks "gloss" like others posess. Its a stronger wax as far as wearing off. Youve got to play around with what works best for you. Once a month is usually a great time period for waxing.

for starters, stop calling it your "whip"

Never heard a Mustang called a whip before.

I only drive my car 7 months out of the year, and it never sees rain or snow or salt. I use Meguair's products and I wax twice a year. I start by washing twice with dish soap, then using the clay bar, then comes paint cleaner followed by the polish and finally wax. Its quite a long process, but the car comes out looking so damn good its worth it !!! Couldnt imagine trying to do that once a month !!
I get alot of compliments on how good my car looks and most people have a hard time believeing its a 99.

Theres a difference between waxing and detailing. oohsoobad2 is talking about a full detail with the clay bar and everything. Using the clay bar twice a year is good, I dont know how often Id use the dish soap though because that can screw with the clear coat if over used. A coat of wax each month is good. Heres my new set up that I have yet to use. http://www.mustangmods.com/data/1229...ling_stuff.jpg

Yea, I only use the dish soap directly before waxing as Ive heard it removes all the old wax. When washing normally, I use Meguairs soft gel wash.... Good stuff

Mines been clayed 4 times this year. Im basicly at the point where theres nothing else to do. Gotta take care of your stuff and itll take care of you.

Spent all day today washing then clay baring my ride. I must be keepin it up pretty good because the clay didnt pull up much dirt at all. The car is smooth as glass... Now paint scrub, 2 coats of polish and then wax and I'll be ready to drive it !!! Well, after the wheels get polished, then the interior gets cleaned, then Armor All everything...geez I thought I had already done alot!!

I need to get a clay bar for Friday, going to wash and bar it and maybe some wax before work. We'll have to see. You guys get them from somewhere like Autozone, Advanced, anything like that?

Jack The Ripper 03-28-2005 02:28 PM

You all have no sence of humor. <laugh>

ANyways, can you "Over Wax" it?

MattJ 03-28-2005 04:25 PM

You can get to the point where waxing it does absolutely nothing but waste your time and products...

So i guess the obsessive compulsives who have to wax thier car 5 times a day, 3 days a week, dont have anything to worry about then but a slimmer wallet? <ROFL>

Eh, this guy i work with was saying if you wax it too often it is going to cause the clearcoat to get a milky haze to it, and swears its true and has a buddy who blahblahblah.

I had never heared that before, was just wondering if anyone has any truth behind it.

WaterDR 03-28-2005 08:55 PM

In the old days, polishes would actually wear off the paint. You would wax a car, and see paint on the rag.

With clear coat, the same can happen, you just don't see it. Any product that is abrasive will wear off the finnish. Things like straight wax, can not hurt.

maggpi717 03-31-2005 01:21 PM

what do you guys think about the wax as you dry stuff, I love it. or what about the auto dry syster by mr clean? I heard it takes the wax off(not cool)

oohsoobad2 03-31-2005 03:52 PM

One of the best tips Ive gotten is a leafblower to dry yur car after washing... I kinda laughed at first, but I told my buddy and he tried it and said it worked awsome!! Car was completely dry in about 5 minutes and it blows out all the water that gets caught in the molddings... I love washing my car, but drying it is a bitch,I plan one getting a leafblower this summer...

i wax 2 times a year, use mr. clean to wash the car and an air compressor to blow the water out of the scoops. car still looks good. if i pulled a leaf blower out to blow the water off my car i would tell my wife to kick my azz. lol
