Default Mach460 speaker replacement

Have been doing a bunch of reading and want some opinions from people. I want to keep the stock Mach460 but replace w/much better quality speakers. Head unit will b replaced when I decide on which one. I know it's kind of a dumb question, but will quality speakers make that much of a difference by just replacing them????? Thnx everyone.

From information I gather from othersYES...good quality speakers will make a difference. I heard that the system is a bit louder...and sounds great!.

keeping the system in tact and able to use the current amplifier in your car will be a problem with a new head unit. In other words, with a new head unit means that you need to bypass the old amplifier and use a new one.

Negative, in my last 95 (R.I.P.) I had aftermarket head unit put in and kept stock amp. Go to crutchfield and you will see the part they use to keep the stock Mach460 parts compatible w/aftermarket stuff. I'd love to go to a full blown out stereo system, but I dont put 200 miles a month on the car so that doesnt justify the $. However, when I am in the car I want good tunes. Will probably do quality speaker replacement and head unit only. What brand of head unit (MP3 and XM/Sirius capable) do ya all reccomend????

Crutchfield gives you the wrong kit for the mach460.
You need the Metra harness part numbers: 70-1771 and 70-5519

If I were you I would get new speakers 1st then listen to see if thats enough for you. Some people spend alot of money when you do not have to. Almost all factory install speakers can not compare to aftermarket ones even if its made by the same brand ex. infinity on Dodge. My father in law has the upgraded system from factory with infinity but my wifes sounds 100x better with the aftermarket infinity speakers. Get component speakers for the front then see if you are satisfied. Try ebay for buying speakers as a friend bought new component speakers for $70 less than in stores. There are better speakers than infinity out there ex. mb quart, boston, but unless you are in competition its not worth getting and is not noticeable by the untrained ear.

Better speakers would help, But, the tweet/mids are 2" drivers. Havent ever seen any aftermarket that size. The others are 5X7s and most 5X7s are atleast a coaxial. Finding just a single 5X7 woofer is rare. To top it off, if I remember correctly they are 8 ohm speakers. Finding a match to work with the stock system would be difficult.
