What is a "tune"

I have read quite a few posts on the SCT Xcal2 and ordering tunes but I'm not sure specifically what a tune is.

If I understand correctly, with the SCT Xcal2 you can change certain parameters i.e. fuel adjustment, tire size, etc. Is a tune just a combination of these parameters or just the adjustment of one parameter?

Why do tunes need to be emailed/loaded? Can't the parameters be sent and the changes effected through the Xcal?

Are the "tunes" loaded or sent with the Xcal2 reliable, in that if I add a cold air intake there is already a standard tune that will make my engine performance at its peak?

I have also heard people speak about Dyno tunes? Is this different that using the Xcal2?

Finally, can the Xcal2 improve the performance of my engine, can I get more horsepower out of it, without adding any mods and just changing the tune?

Thanks for everyones paytience for the newbie, and I appreciate everyone help/advice.

Go here and read all about it.

http://www.sctflash.com/

I had a CAI and tune added to my GT, had it dyno tuned and it added about 20-26 RWHP and some torque.

yes it will set the ECM settings to optimize your engine power and efficientcy.

You can specify what type of tune you want, those are emailed to you then downloaded onto the SCT tuner then you plug it in to your car and upload the tune.

Another idea would be to do a search and read the other posts more or again. With the tuner, you can change other settings, such as when you change your tire size, it can reset your speedo to read correctly for your new tire size.

And on and on.

Hope this helped. Just way to much info for a quick post.
