The Seafoam Tutorial

1 Attachment(s)
Ok, there's this stuff, called Seafoam, you can buy it at yoru local autoparts store, it cleans out all the carbon in your engine, and is supposed to help it run smoother. So I decided to try it. Before you start, if you do this (which you should) know a few things: Have a funnel with a very small opening (refer to vaccum line pic) a funnel would have made things much easier. Be out side ! Alot, and i mean ALOT of smoke will come out of your car. Have a freind to help. ok, so here it is.

Here is the product, seafoam sitting on my car :D

Here is the vaccum line you should use, if you use a differnt vaccum line, make sure it feeds ALL cylinders.

it might be on there pretty good, but if you tug hard enough, that som' bitch will come off eventually

Now, take my word use a small plastic funnel!! Luckily my mom is an Anestisiologist, and has weird as hoses and medical stuff in a box, so what me and a freind did was take one tube put it in the vaccum line, take another tube, put it in the seafoam can, and put that tube in the first tube

Here you'll see my finger over the tube, you'll need to cover the vaccum line with your finger while a freind starts the car, if not the car will stall out.

Then what we did was connect the tubes, let the car suck a little seafoam out (the vaccum is strong) stop it, wait again for a sec, let a lil more seafoam in, let the car idle for a few secs, and repeat this process.

Now what you should do if you have a funnel instead of weird tubes, is take your finger off the hole, slap the funnel on, have a bud pour a lil in, take the funnel out, cover the hole for 20-30 seconds, and repeat. Sometimes if you give it alot of seafoam it will sound like the car is about to stall out, dont worry, it comes back, most of the time, too much air or seafoam, and the car will stall.

heres a pic with the tubes, just connected, and the vaccum about to suck..

and just do that untill the whole bottle is gone

During and after the process, the car will spew ALOT of smoke! and I mean alot, its actually really cool =) These next pics dont do it justice, they were taken near the end.

It took a few minutes after the seafoam for most of the smoke, i revved it to about 1500 and kept it there for like a min, and ALOT came out

and thats it your done!!! Easy process, and fun to see a giant cloud of smoke =) I'm going to do this everytime I change my oil from now on. If you have any questions, just ask. Now go get some Seafoam!

I actually had a friend refer me to this. I wont put it in my mustang but id try it in my winter beater. that thing has to be pure carbon internally...

Putting it in your mustang every oil change is going to eat away your rings and other delicate engine parts. Its made to eat at the build-up and if theres no buildup its going to eat whatever is in place. Its also a mutagen (mutation causing agent) so you could grow a lung on your face from being exposed from this. Its something to be used sparingly.

Hmm, it said for best results, use every 2-5000 miles

for best profit - recommend every 2000-5000 miles is more like it. They arent going to make money as a company if they suggest it once a year, which is more logical and realistic.

Yeah i kinda figured, eh mabey every 10 k

MattJ 10-31-2005 08:43 PM

im gonna try this on my beater. its probably gonna be smoking PURE BLACK SMOKE! lol, its as slow as frozen dog piss and drinks gas. mabye ill see some great results with it.

MineralGT 10-31-2005 08:59 PM

Nice write-up, I posted this on a few more forums...I'll give it a try one of these days...let us know how the car performs or any side effects...like blowing up. :D

dannyb785 10-31-2005 09:15 PM

so is there any difference in idle, driving, or ride?

I talked to someone who used it before and they said that the idle was a lot smoother idle, and better throttle response.

Lances03SVT 11-01-2005 04:23 AM

Very good Springs.I moved it too the how too forum.

My dad and i were have prob. with our 73 not working as strong as she could so we used the seafoam stuff but we didn't pour it into the vaccum line. the bottle said to pour it into the gas tank. we did and you could tell a major difference in acceleration and idleing...before she would almost die while idlein but after we added the seafoam she would idle nice.

MattJ 11-02-2005 07:40 PM

im gonna buy like 6 cans of this.. lol

wade95 11-03-2005 05:26 AM

Do the directions say to use the whole can via the vacuum line? I read on another post that you are only suppose to use like 1/3rd of the can through the vacuum line. Once you do that you let the car sit for 10-15 mins then restart. The rest of the can can be dumped into the oil (hopefully 100 or so miles b4 you are due for oil change.) Or the rest can be used in the gas tank.

Since my car is so strong now Im figuring it is running good and wont try it. However, I will put it in the Exploder (explorer) soon.

Badfish 11-04-2005 04:27 PM

yep it says on the cam , and other people have said when using the vaccum line, use the whole thing

you can put seafoam in different places, like your gas tank and oil can, but each different area does slightly different things

MattJ 11-04-2005 04:28 PM

I just changed the oil in my truck like 2 weeks ago. Should I stay away from pouring it in there?

Hmm, im not sure, i wish i had kept the can, but it will say right on it...im sure if putting it in your oil pan is one of the suggestions, i doubt the fact that you just changed your oil will be a factor in using it or not

MattJ 11-05-2005 01:36 PM

I went out and bought 3 cans of this. One went into my gas tank for my dodge ram. Its raining horribly right now so I might have to wait till tomarrow to do it. Ive also got to find my correct lines.

are you gonna do your mustang? the line on the stang is really easy to find, pulling it off is a little bit of a struggle

MattJ 11-07-2005 11:17 AM

Added one can to the gas tank and one through the carb of my truck. that thing is billowing white smoke. I noticed a difference through my gas, ill let you guys know tonight on how much it made a difference through the carb. im just on lunch here...

Icefreezen 11-07-2005 04:49 PM

I seafoamed my car today......had a tube/hose from my last car that fit the vaccum perfectly and let it suck the sea foam right out of the can....Lots of smoke got worried about the kids down the road so I took it on the highway but leaving the neighborhood my neighbor told me to stop cuz he thought my car was on fire or something....lol.... good stuff idle is so smooth and regular driving is smooth too........changed my oil out 25-30 miles later and the oil had a wierd smell than usual I did 75% through the vaccum and the rest in my gas tank that had maybe like 3-4 gallons on the low fuel light went on when I got off the highway. Very pleased :D

dsdaddy 11-12-2005 12:19 PM

Just did the Seafoam thing today. You guys weren't kiddin'...DAMN, that's a lot of damn smoke. I think I scared the old lady that lives across the street from me. :D

MattJ 11-12-2005 12:37 PM

Ive had wax sitting on my car for an hour now. Im gonna go clean it off use my last bottle of sea foam...

htownv6 09-16-2006 07:42 PM

i really dont trust myself to do much under the hood so can i use this just in the gas tank?? if so how much and how long do i let it sit before driving?? what details should i know?

spike_africa 09-23-2006 10:07 AM

You can but it wont clean the sludge out of the manifold and heads and off the valves. It would only then clean the injectors, and some of the combustion chamber (so it says, i dont see that being possible though).

htownv6 10-04-2006 08:37 AM

i did it yesterday (1/3 in vacuum line, rest in gas) and it didnt smoke as much as i was expecting but it does feel a lot smoother

phil_the_thrill 10-05-2006 04:57 PM

here's a short vid of my car when i ran the seafoam through it. not as much smoke as i thought but still quite a bit. i wish i would've got a better shot of my tips but i didnt check the camera before i hit record.

http://media.putfile.com/Mustang-on-Seafoam

dumbass me left my trunk open and all the smoke blew in to it so now my whole car smells like shit. i put half a can in my gas tank so im going to see what kind of gas mileage i get when i come home from college this weekend. this stuff was $7 a can in rolla, missouri. the lady at o'reilys said they go through 4 cases of this stuff a month and the price just went up. i was wondering what other people paid for this in other parts of the country.

SlicK 10-06-2006 12:21 PM

Anyone know the vacuum line to use on the sixer? Just bought a bottle and I'm itchin' to use it.

SlicK 10-06-2006 08:42 PM

NVM. Ran that shit through my intake and it didn't smoke nearly as much as I thought. I found out that it used to get the seafoam treatment through the fuel tank every 5k miles.
