How To Remove Trunk Badges (Big Pictures)
 

Okay, just for s&g I decided to do a write up on how to take off the stock "Ford" emblem and my after market "GT" badge.

I've purchased the deck lid blackout from Rocky Mountain Graphics so I don't want any of the badges on the trunk, it's also an excuse for me to finally post pictures of my Mustang, it's ass at least. :P

Here we go:

This is what my Mustang looks like from the back. (Start)

Parts: RUBBER spatula, cloth (I used a sock), rubbing alcohol, blow dryer and about 30 minutes.

(STEP 1) Okay, now that you have gathered what you need, you will first start by holding the blow dryer about 6 inches away from your badge and you want to turn it on high. You need to wait about 2-5 minutes, moving it from side to side to make sure you've successfully heated up the glue on your badge. I started from one side and moved to the other.

(STEP 2) Once sufficient time has elapsed for the glue to start warming up, you need to gently penetrate one side of the badge. I started from corner of the "T" on the "GT" badge. As you can see, my sisters Mary Kate and Ashley 1600 twin turbine force induction blow dryer is what I would recommend using. :P

(STEP 3) Keep working at it and you will eventually end up with something that looks like this:

As you can see, quite a bit of foam is still adhered to my trunk.

You need to repeat steps 1-3 for the "Ford" emblem.

Once you have completed steps 1-3 for each of your badges, you need to now remove the rest of the adhesive and foam, and then rid the area of the remainder of glue.

You should have something that looks like this:

I already took the liberty to carefully use the RUBBER spatula to remove off as much as the foam as I could.

Finally, you should take a clean rag, soak one part of it in rubbing alcohol and vigorously scrub the area that has glue on it. After some elbow grease, it's not really that difficult, you should end up with something that looks like this:

Hah, you ordered one too? Mine arrived today. :D Ill be doing this very soon, however ill probably recommend/use goo-b-gone,and a plastic putty knife :)

great write up, i would love to take the ford emblem off but im not doing the deck lid so idk what i would do about that holes from the ford emblem

@Deathdiesel Yeah, I have to wait to order mine. I don't want to order anything online with my desktop, I'll use my non-AIDS invested laptop to do that. I'm still debating about gloss or matte... I would have used Goo-Gone if I had some but I used them on my VHT Night Shade tail light tint to remove it, yes a whole can for both, and I didn't feel like buying more. (~$6) Plus, I knew I could do it with stuff I already had.

@probiker427 Thanks. I didn't expect the holes there. I'm not sure how I'm going to fill them. I was under the impression that they were just foam stickers, I didn't know that they holes for them...

I'll probably use some silicone or something. Anyone recommend anything?

Looks better without the GT logo, but I would have left the ford emblem because of the holes. The vinyl from Rocky Mountain has a cut out for the ford oval just so you know. Definitely go matte black, I have the matte black on mine and love it.

I just pried the one I had off with my fingers and used a little goo gone to remove the glue. Took about 10 minutes. Depends on how well its stuck to determine of you need heat. Id avoid heat if you dont need to use it. A good heat gun can melt clearcoat in 2 seconds. Hair dryer was a good idea for sure.

Just ordered the flat black vinyl. I'm going to have my buddy install it for me since he works at a body shop. Where can I get some sticky stuff to re install my ford oval emblem? I was thinking some double sided tape, but I'm going to need something with some foam on it.

3m adhesive tape at walmart or autozone, or you can buy a new oval.

I purchased 3m out door adhesive tape from Walmart, cut it to fit around the prongs that stick out of the emblem, pealed the backing and stuck it to the trunk.

I've thought about removing my trunk badge since my fenders are shaved. I had a bad experience with my v6 car though.

On a side note, how would I fill the 6 holes, 3 on each side, left from my spoiler? I've asked friends and they say to weld them, but isn't the trunk fiberglass? Any ideas? I'm talking about permanently closing the wholes and having the trunk top repainted because of the scratches and paint fade left from the spoiler. (It's still on(if you couldn't tell from the pictures))

Your friends are stupid..yes the top is fiberglass. Also is it possible to cover the spot for the Ford Emblem with a 3.8 emblem??

K, i might buy a 3.8 emblem and put it there instead of the Ford emblem :) Depends i guess.

I would, but I prefer the "clean" look of the stock ford emblem.

Yeah, it's what I recommend for badge removal. ;)

Hey guys another way to take off the emblems is to take some string put it under the corner of the emblem and slide it back and forth underneath it. Then clean it up with some rubbing alcohol. That's what most body shops do. None the less there are many ways to do this.

Mine actually worked without heating up the glue..fail or not?
