I could not find anywhere inside the vehicle or in the owner's manual a location for the trunk release on a newly acquired 2006 GT Premium convertible.

Do I just use the remote key FOB?

 

I don't know about the newer ones, but my body style has a button in the glove compartment.

 

There is none in the 05+. The 94-04s have a yellow button in the glove box, however no luck with the 05+. Dumb move IMO.

 

actually the 2010's have it right next to the shifter. Looks like they finally got it right this time around.

 

The 05-09 mustangs don't have a button anywhere!? That's crazy.

 

another reason to get a new edge! if the 05-09's back seats let down, u can open them, then reach in and pull the escape lever.

It's pretty surprising to me that this feature was deleted in the '05-'09 models. It was on my '84 LX HO V8 Ragtop!

 

I'm sure there is a relay that pops the trunk controlled by the remote receiver.
It most likely is triggered by a negative pulse.
If you can find the relay, locate the control wire and add a button to it.
You can also ask your friendly alarm installer for the location and color of the wire.

BUT PLEASE VERIFY THIS BEFORE YOU FRY SOMETHING.

Trunk/Hatch Release Wire (-): White/Purple
Trunk/Hatch Release Wire Location: Passenger Kick Panel or SJB, black 52 pin plug, pin 13. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel. The trunk release motor wire is pink/orange (+) in the passenger kick, harness to rear.

Easy fix. Plus the reason for not having a trunk button was because S197 users aren't lazy, and because Ford wanted to make a reason to get a new key-FOB programmed everytime you lost it.

Mostly the second reason. =]

But yes, it does suck that we don't have an interior trunk release. I just use my clicker. Yes, I know it is called a 'Fob', but I hate that word!

 

This is slightly off topic, but I'd rather just post my question here than make a whole new thread for such a silly topic.

On my '00 GT whenever I release the trunk, be it with the FOB or interior trunk release, my trunk latch simply clicks and I have to manually pull it up to get it open. On my mother's Taurus, whenever she releases the trunk the trunk literally pops fully open. Do the Mustang trunks have the feature or do they simply disengage and require the user to pull the trunk open?

Just something I've been thinking about...

 

You have to open it yourself.

The reason for this is because: Unlike Tauruses' Mustangs are not grocery go-getters, the Taurus trunk opens all the way because they're expecting a woman with grocery bags in hand speeding over to the trunk and needing to throw that heavy bag containing a gal of milk into the trunk. She would be unable to lift the trunk up herself with those groceries in her hands. When you unlatch the Mustang trunk, they're figuring you either did it on accident, or are about to open it to show off your subs or lack of trunk space, or that dead hooker you're keeping in there. If you were infact keeping a dead hooker in the trunk, they wouldn't want that trunk opening up all of the way and showing the evidence, instead you can walk back there and push it down an inch to shut it.

You can install pressurized pistons that push it open when you release it. They're a little bit more pressurized than the factory.
