MAF cleaner
 

Just wanted to say I cleaned my MAF just now and I was really didnt want to touch the thing because if you mess up it's a really expensive mistake. So I did some reading and found CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner is the best way to go. I didnt have to disassemble anything or use Q-tips or anything. ALl you have to do is spray onto the MAF sensor and walla no messy residue it dissolves the grease and dust. Car runs extremely well now. And you can use it on other electrical connections which I did. I recommend this if you guys use a air filter that needs to be re oiled such as a K&N filter. Oil can be collected on the sensor.:boink: :punk: It's good stuff. Especially if your worried about touching the MAF sensor.

brake clean also works, as its just two metal wires that get hot with volts from the car.

Doesn't brake cleaner leave a little residue. I've been told by people not to use that on the MAF for that reason

Where did you buy this stuff, and do you know where to buy the torx bit with the hole in the middle of it?

I just went down to advanced auto to pick up the cleaner. With this stuff you dont need to take the MAF apart. But if you are compelled to do so you can get those torx bits at auto parts store to my knowledge.

So you can access the MAF to clean it without removing it from the housing?

Yeah if you get a flashlight you will see a opening in the center of the tube in the housing you'll see the 2 metal pieces your supposed to clean and just spray that. there really is no need to take the MAF apart.

Ever used brake cleaner? it leaves nothing use it instead its alot cheaper.

You aren't really gaining HP, your regaining HP.

Electrical contact cleaner has always worked for me. It evaporates almost imediately and is good for any electrical contact, Will not short, corrode or damage any brass/metal contacts. Lots of things under the hood can be cleaned with it. Or if you already have it like stated up above, brake parts cleaner would work fine as well.

I have a couple of cans of this stuff called "Big Bath" it is for cleaning computer boards and stuff(claims it doesn't leave residue and evaporates quickly), that should work the same shouldn't it?

Yep that sounds like the same stuff. Thats what the electrical contact cleaner i have is for. I originally bought it to clean the contacts on old NES/Atari games/systems I was refurbishing and selling on ebay. Works like a champ and dries/evaporates alot faster than alcohol. Also great for removing stubborn thermal paste or any corrision from CPU's and DRAM sticks... Sorry didnt mean to go CPU nerd on you... lol

so you take the filter off, get a flashlight look up the tube and you will see the sensors that you need to clean? and just spray em?

Sorry I didnt see this sooner, Correct you will see at the top near the MAF a opening that looks and is about the same size of your fingernail and you will see a the element right in there spray it down real good.

I couldnt find the CRC mass airflow cleaner but I picked up STP throttle body and air intake cleaner do you guys think this will be alright to clean the MAF with?

if not ill try to find the CRC but havent seen it around..

Not sure about the STP throttle body cleaner, but the CRC throttle body cleaner says not to use it on the MAF.......maybe it's just to get us to buy their MAF cleaner.
I found the CRC MAF cleaner at Pep Boys, Autozone didn't have it. I just found out this weekend that this stuff really works. My car was acting up after installing a new K&N on my CAI. I cleaned out the MAF with this spray and the car's running great again.

I found the CRC stuff and got 2 cans, I took the filter off but it says to disconnect the MAF wire harness and take off the cover with the Torx bit, but it wont let you take the cover off so I just sprayed up the tube with the cleaner ill see tomorrow if it worked out!
