Going to blow my engine?
 

I run a BONE-STOCK 8 cylinder with an inter cooled Paxton Supercharger. The supercharger is tuned to about 8 lbs. of boost. I also have a blow off valve on my set up. My question is if my set up is too powerful for my engine and that it has the chance of blowing.

Any time you start modding you have the chance to break something.

That being said, if the tune is good on it, and a/f is good then you're in decent shape.

When you start messing with FI it has a tendency to find the weakest part of the car. Motor/tranny/rearend ect.

trying not to sound like a dumb ass.... what is FI. And what should be the proper A/F ratio and is 8 lbs. of boost satisfactory or should i go lower?

FI is forced induction. I'm not sure what the A/F should be on a GT with 8lbs..I'm sure someone here will be able to chime in on that.

8lbs of boost is ALL I would recommend on the stock motor, unless you're prepared to rebuild it.

Who tuned the car? We can go from there..

I did not own the car when it was tuned that's why i want to re-tune it.

Yea, if you don't know who did the tune I'd have it re-done by a reputable shop, there are plenty around the country.

When the car is being tuned the tuner will dial everything in properly, so things such as a/f will be fine after whoever tunes it is done.

How much is it normally to have a car professionally tuned?

I don't remember off the top of my head, I want to say a couple hundred bucks. Depending on where you're located though you can call around..

You want to be very careful in the meantime. If the car was not tuned properly you could risk damaging the motor by putting your foot in it. Also make sure you run the highest octane you can get until you have the tune redone.

Find a reputable shop to do the tune. It can help to talk to the local guys to get recommendations for a shop.

Hope everything goes well for you, get that thing on a dyno ASAP. A location would help us point you toward a good dyno.

If you do not have a SCT x-cal for custom tuning expect to pay around 700-800 for a dyno tune at a reputable shop. Typical shops charge between 400-500 for dyno tune if you have your own device. This is my experience from the West Coast. May be cheaper in other states.

8lbs is very safe for the mod motor. As long as your air fuel mixture reading is in the 11.5 range and the tune doesnt have an extreme amount of advanced timing in it. I will suggest finding a dyno shop that has a wideband so you can check your air fuel reading to make sure you can safely run your car at WOT until you can get it retuned.

I ran 11-12psi in my stock motor for 6 years and 33k miles with no problems. Nothing internally was changed in my 2000 Mustang GT motor all stock components. My transmission did take a shit thought but that was it.

Uhh..Livernois in Michigan.. Mustang Magic in Long Island..uhh some tuners in NJ as well.. JDM Engineering..

Some of the east coast guys can chime in a bit better. There are plenty of good tuners out there that can tune the car. Since it isn't anything crazy a GOOD local tuner with some experience with mustangs can probably do the trick.

If you want the best, my opinion Livernois, but thats because I've heard of them. I've heard of JDM as well, just don't know as much.

I think if you will mess up with the physics of the engine, it is definitely going to blow up..
